Re: B8 RS4 or SQ5 (stop me buying the latter!!)
B8 RS4 23.3mpg ave over last 4000 miles. Mix of town and country roads (+/- 10% town). Small tank is more of a pain. 260-300 miles to a tank. No regrets selling a 997 and STI for the RS4 - perfect family car!!!
Re: B8 RS4 or SQ5 (stop me buying the latter!!)
The rs6 is an amazing car, but - here cometh the bills!! Dynamically i think the rs4 is much much more agile and flight afoot, the rs6 is a monster monster barn stormer.
In the rs6 i'd do max 4 laps of the ring btb, the rs4 laps all day long.
I went to poole audi, rs6 for sale asked the guy if i could show my wife, he stood next to this 12500 mile car and said, yep back up for sale owner sold it back to us, and we've had to put new front brakes on it...... £2500 - that blew the rs6 for me, its a proper rich mans car.
Rs4 is much easier to stomach, and look at the resale value for rs6 vs 4, the 4 is much more solid

Not forgetting there is without doubt an rs6 plus coming...

Re: B8 RS4 or SQ5 (stop me buying the latter!!)
Not sure I agree. RS6 is the best RS product since the B7.
Parts are no more expensive than the RS4 and i'd say it's better on fuel.
I don't think the RS4 is more agile. The 6 is big but it doesn't feel any bigger to drive than the 4. I really don't miss the 4.
As for resale, don't think there's much in it. A car is never going to be an investment.

Erm, i'm not sure it is? It is undoubtedly the fastest rs car made and the way it does things is awesome BUT WITH A COST. Even the ceramic brakes can't handle the weight, and i've done a hard lap in an rs6 around the ring that cooked the ceramic brakes (set them on fire) you just cannot overcome simple physics.
Sure the rs6 is the best barnstormer, but the rs4 for me was better than my 911 turbo. It is a really dynamic - agile car. Lacks torque and gumpf of the rs6 engine, easy to solve though - just rev it!! But i tell you what stick the rs6 engine in an rs4, now that would be a winning rs car
As for resale, b5's are going up in value, c5's are still dropping like an old heavy stone...

Re: B8 RS4 or SQ5 (stop me buying the latter!!)
That's exactly how I have felt about the b7 all these years before it being a manual daily drive has worn tiring very recently (think that's called getting old)boff wrote:I was in exactly the same situation
The SQ5 was amazing, the way it pulls with a light touch on the juice is amazing - BUT - totally disconnected from the drive.
I had both cars for a weekend back to back, and on the way home from my brother in-laws (1.5hrs journey) I found myself alone with the rs4 with two kids and my wife asleep. That was the moment that sold me, all of a sudden was a car that didn't just fit the family, it suited me too. At that point the rs4 became the perfect family car for us:
My Wife can drive it
My Kids are comfortable
I can lug stuff
Dogs are possible
House move is possible
and have fun at the same time.
I'd not bother with an sq5, i'd go diesel macan. The RS4 won it, and won it big time.
B8 wins over SQ5 in both head and heart now, cheers. Unfortunately now the rs6 is in the mix albeit waiting a year

Re: B8 RS4 or SQ5 (stop me buying the latter!!)
I know my local Pork dealer well and there are discounts but they're minimal and I'd be wary of depreciation free, you will lose and as waiting times come down you will lose more. All said, it certainly drives better than the SQ, but it is not fair to say it's in a different league and in any event does anyone seriously buy car like this for the handling? At the price point for a well specced Macan I would be putting my money elsewhere. The SQ is a quick, versatile, family car with safe handling, it's no GT3, but nor is the Macan. I'm a Porsche owner and fan, but I wouldn't entertain their SUV products on the basis that the engineering is wasted on heavy, high sided load luggers.doodlebug wrote:No discounts...but depreciation free motoring right now. Wait times are down too, especially for weasel. Diesel may be a bit slow but PH still thought it much better than SQ5. There's been discussions on this elsewhere, the whole car is in a different league to the Audi. Petrol S or turbo are quicker than the SQ5 if it's performance you're after.Foxy wrote: forget the Macan, though it handles well it does't have the punch of the SQ, long waiting times and limited discount.

Depends how loaded you are... But at my point in life, an rs4 b8 plus a golf plus dsg
all boxes are ticked... And hey yep i maybe finally getting a bit more sensible!!! (Houses schools holidays etc becoming priority)
The parts on an rs4 are way cheaper than rs6....
I guess it all comes down to priorities, for me, find a motor that suits, move on!!! Lol do stuff with the girls and enjoy family life!!!

Not sure I agree whole heartedly with your sentiments. A friend purchased and spec'd a Macan diesel to nigh on £70k and has just sold it last week for a £500 pound loss after 6 months ownership and 6500 miles motoring. There's not many new cars you could do that with.Foxy wrote: I know my local Pork dealer well and there are discounts but they're minimal and I'd be wary of depreciation free, you will lose and as waiting times come down you will lose more. Sounds like you are very much the same stage of life as me (my girls are 2 and 5) we love putting our bikes on the roof of the RS and having days out, or loading up the boot to the roof for weekends lolboff wrote:Depends how loaded you are... The rs4 is IMO the perfect sized car and does everything great, it just doesn't have that fire breathing v8t that I find myself craving so much.
If I'm honest though an rs6 is probably out of my league financially but as we only own one car I am thinking it a posibility next year maybe.
Decisions ehh, I think I need to test drive a 6 to see if it is the future car for me or not, if not it's another rs4 but b8 and sooner rather than later

I think it’s just that Porsche products are generally in Vogue right now.
Rightly so though, as the products are good and Audi could learn from them.

True, but the Macans will be nearly as common on the road as RR evokes within a year I think. The nice thing about RS audi's is their exclusivity.
