Any kind of brake material will wear out quicker through track use. Ceramics will probably provide 5k track use with steel doing 2k, road use you'll get 100k on ceramics and 25k on steels. So it's all relative really.

If choosing to track an RS4, I'd probably go with a more challenging circuit like Cadwell or Anglesey.

For me the best track to start with is Bedford, simply because the huge run off's give plenty of space for when we run out of "talent" (as one of the track briefings always says!).
I'm not that keen on Bedford as a circuit but as least it's a good mix of corners each with different challenges. I love Castle Combe which is probably my nearest track (with regular open pit lane days) but it's bumpy and quite technical so probably best for the 2nd outing.
I made the mistake of going to Donnington on a cold and frosty day for 1st track day with the Cayman R, the progression from 4wd of the S3 to RWD was soon felt when I span it and was nearly T-boned by a Exige.

On the subject of brakes. As others have said, a track day with the Ceramics is half the reason to have them. They will give a definite edge and should be amazing, my experience is that speed on the track is usually Positioning>>>braking/correct gear>>>acceleration in that order (I'm sure some will disagree). The RS4 is a big and heavy car compared to the stripped out MX5's, Golf mk2's that are just as quick though the twists and turns. It's nice to pass them on the straights but the real skill and fun is in the bends :-) I will be very envious of those with better brakes. Accepting the point that they cost more to replace but 100k road miles or 5k track is a hell of a lot of use and far more than most of us will keep our cars for anyway.

A 1997 track day at Bedford when it had just opened with Jonathon Palmer racing (and was sponsored by Audi) got me into the Marque. The B5 S4 was simply awesome, and the Mk1 TT's and 2.8 A4 quattro with slushomatic still felt like a rocket. Never looked back from there and was lucky enough to go back around 10 times in the following 3 years.
Mind you, they were on a 2-day tyre, brake and oil change, all care of Audi. Ceramics were just a wet dream 18 years ago!

I attended a track day with my car at Bedford Autodrome today. It was a lot of fun, despite the fact that the RS4 clearly isn't the ideal track car. Understeer was very much the order of the day, but I still had a blast sliding the car around :)

Pics look good
I had a chat with a guy at combe recently, who was oversteering a B8 RS4 around the circuit. He said he let a bit out the fronts and ran the backs higher and it sorted the balance nicely on the track
Not sure on exact pressures though as I just normally run mine about 38 all round

I did run higher in the back but you can't beat the laws of physics (heavy car, heavy front engine) ultimately. I started off increasing the pressures significantly (to 44/46), which was great slippery fun but far from quick! Settled on 38/40 (which is what I run on the road) in the end.

Looks good Andy - there is no doubts that my RS is going to see the tarmac of at least one track this summer - can't think of any other reason Audi have the dynamic suspension setting...!
