So - had a 10 minute conversation with Audi today explaining, (relatively politely) that I could not understand why they would charge me extra for an option, (black pack) that rendered my car, that was quite clearly designed for winter driving, obsolete, if the roads had been salted. (A bit dramatic I know but effectively they're saying replace the tail pipes every year or don't use the car in winter!) The, (mostly polite) young lady on the phone then proceeded to explain what, "wear and tear" was and that Audi could not cover the item under warranty.

The call ended with me asking her to come and collect the car as they had clearly sold me something that was not fit for purpose.

20 minutes later Audi Portsmouth phoned to tell me the customer services guy that dealt with me last week had made a mistake and they value my custom enough to change the pipes at my earliest convenience and at no cost to me!

I'm unclear who is going to pay for them, (ie if Audi admit there's a problem and replace under warranty) but there is clearly a route to getting them replaced if you've got the same problem.

Fair play Audi Portsmouth if they are paying.

Good work mate, sounds harder than it needed to be, but result anyhow.

Considering these cars are designed in a country that has far harsher winters than we do, then it's s legitimate claim.

An update.

So my car was in at Stirling Audi today for its airbag software update. They refused to enterytain the tip degradtion as anything but stone chip wear and tear. Not interested - no goodwill.

Needless to say , the campaign begins.

If I was you, I'd get straight onto Audi uk
Mine were changed as warranty by Swindon Audi just two weeks ago, so quote my car registration as an example - WV64 XYL Graeme Hardie

Not that it'll make a difference, but only one of mine was changed, as only one was showing marks, so certainly not just 'stone chips' or 'wear and tear'

My car is 9 months old and the tips still look like new

It is one of the things on my list in with the dealer today, I will name and shame or name and congratulate later......

I had exactly the same problem on my RS6... Dealer said that Audi would not replace as fair wear and tear (5 month old car). I obviously kicked up a fuss and the dealer did it under "goodwill" and explained they would not change them again.
I have now noticed that the replacement ones are going the same way after 3 months. Not good

Raised this issue with Glasgow Audi today while I was in about a few other issues and without even looking at the car or asking any questions the service manager said "that's down to using wheel cleaner on them and so essentially accused me of damaging them without even looking at the tips( and no I haven't used wheel acid on the wheels or car)..needless to say, less than impressed with the service from Audi Glasgow, not just with this particular issue but there service in general....

Write to Audi UK and tell them the problem and show them this thread and say sort it out as they'll be losing a lot of customers otherwise. Can't believe they would make such a stand over a few quids worth of exhaust tips

Booked car in for a strange buzzing noise coming from the passenger footwell this week at Milton Keynes.mentioned to the tech and the service chap about the black exhaust tips issue on mine both looked fairly unaware of any issue , but will look into it..... Won't hold my breath on that one.

Mines going in for warranty replacements tips in April as well as a driver seat clunk, slightly high riding of the clutch when coming to junctions, and the Audi valve caps and valves to be replaced as they have seized on!

Update - had my black exhaust tips replaced today under warranty. I didn't even realise they were silver inside as mine were heavily sooted too. Needless to say these will be cleaned inside and out properly every week without fail....!
