New Windscreen requires 4 hours of Audi labour after fitting
New Windscreen requires 4 hours of Audi labour after fitting
Hi All
Not been on here much recently
Got a barsteward chip on the windscreen this weekend which has turned in to a crack.
Autoglass said they could do the screen no problem but then gave some detail on an Audi notice.
Once they have done it the car has to go to Audi to re-programme the ACC and lane assist etc
Spoke to Audi who confirmed this is true and I can't leave it because the car will have loads of warning signs up !
They can do this for c£500 and no the insurers don't cover it !
Anybody else been unfortunate to have this yet or anybody have any other advice before I book it in !?
Maybe a warning to those speccing new cars because I could certainly live without those options I have to say at the price

Yep, that will be correct.
From the workshop manuals having the windscreen changed will require the lane assist camera to be re-calibrated.
This will only affect cars with the Lane assist installed.
You shoudl be aware that pretty much any changes to anh of the components of the varous lane assist, acc, dynamic steering systems etc will reuqire a calibration by Audi, which is labour and time intensive, hence the cost.

Re: New Windscreen requires 4 hours of Audi labour after fit
Surely if the LKA sensor is simply positioned back as before on the new screen, no re calibration is required ?
I'd get the screen changed and then try LKA to see if it still works as the sensor's in the back of the mirror housing that has a predetermined position in the car
After all, it's not the most accurate system in the world anyway and +/- a couple of mm isn't going to make a huge difference, surely ?

I'm not sure if it's the same or a new sensor. If it's the same one then you'll prob be ok. If it's a new one you might find its way off.
Re: New Windscreen requires 4 hours of Audi labour after fit
I had to have a new windscreen in my RS4 after only 5 days after nice lorry decided to throw a rock a my windscreen. Wasn't impressed so I went to the Audi dealer first and although the insurance company used Autoglass they advised me to ensure it was an Audi windscreen not an aftermarket one. So I went to see Autoglass and booked it in to have the screen done after confirming it would be an Audi one. To confirm this it has the four rings stamped on the windscreen. I also arranged for them to fit the screen at the Audi dealership so they could check for me that it was all done correctly. As well as that they also lent me a car while it was in which just happened to be an R8 V10. Anyway, went back the next day and pick it up, all fitted with correct screen etc but I had no cost to pay and nobody ever mention once about recalibration but no warning lights and everything worked fine. This was back in March 2013. Now, I'm either guessing that they did all this and didn't charge me as the car had ACC, lane assist or as I suspect they put the old sensor back and everything was fine. If I were you I would have another go at the stealers mentioning things like "well I was just about to look at a new RS4" etc and see if that gets you anywhere. Hope you get it sorted out

I believe that the lane-assist camera controls the high-beam assist as well, so maybe worth checking that functions correctly if you have it.

No, its the lane assist, not high beam assist.Snotsicle wrote:I believe that the lane-assist camera controls the high-beam assist as well, so maybe worth checking that functions correctly if you have it.
Re: New Windscreen requires 4 hours of Audi labour after fit
I dont understand why it wouldnt be covered by the insurance?
the whole point is to be returned to the position you were before the event.

Re: New Windscreen requires 4 hours of Audi labour after fit
I replaced my a windscreen on my old B7 and after hearing all the horror story's about autoglass i bought the glass from Audi and found out who they used as fitters and took it there i think from memory all in i cost about £350 £250 for the glass and £100 for the fitting
but you should be able to demand OEM glass from Autoglass
