Milltek Non-Res question - calling all who have Non-Res

Post by carsarecool » Wed Sep 03, 2014 5:47 pm

I've had the system a few months now and have driven it in most situations (long and short journeys, different settings etc.) and am a bit puzzled by it's sound behaviour.

In "Drive" the exhaust sounds nice and not too loud when not nailing the throttle, however when you give it some revs, i.e. overtaking, it goes into Sport (Loud) mode and then settles back into Drive mode once the manouvre has finished. Also, when driving on the motorway with cruise on, when it hits 90mph in Drive mode, it goes into loud mode when the revs go over 2800-3000rpm i.e.when pulling up an incline. I find this slightly annoying and wondered if this is how it should be as I don't remember this happening with the OEM Sport system.

When starting from cold it is loud for circa. 30 secs but it did that with the OEM system. When "engine/gearbox" is in Dynamic mode, the exhaust is loud by default irrespective of the "exhaust" setting. Something else I don't recall from the OEM system and is making think something might be wrong as I always had the "engine/gearbox" in Dynamic and the exhaust was never in loud mode unless the "exhaust" setting was in Dynamic.

Ideally I'd like is a loud Sport Mode and a quieter Drive Mode but the settings seem to have a mind of their own. I know I bought into the louder system but that doesn't explain it's current behaviour.

Hope that all makes sense.....

That makes perfect sense to me. I had noticed the same with the capristo. Having said that, I'm not so aware of it getting loud when cruising on the mway & going up hill etc, but I could be wrong. It could be a couple of things...

1. Sports pack gives different settings to the ecu & thus the flaps?
2. The difference in the Capristo vs. Milltek is 'x' db higher & thus more noticeable to you on the Milly
3. You drove like a girl for the first few months & now you realise that LOUD is the future :<beep>_you:

I don't know what triggers the labia to open, whether it be throttle, pressure, revs or something more technical (I'm not techie so all of that could be utter bollox!) but I am aware that if I am in drive & I boot it, the Capristo lets the world know I'm coming through.

Doubt that helps, but hope it does......

PS - did you get my PM?
It's all torque talk.

I think, regardless of setting, that all the valves open on the OE system above a certain RPM. If your system is working the open/close function from the standard ECU, then I see no reason that would change.
Never fully understood why the car's that much louder and 'rattly'er' at start up for a short period, but all RS products do it

Mine does the same, even in comfort as soon as you hit 3k rpm in 7th gear on the motorway the valves open.

Never noticed if it did this with the std sports exhaust, weird!
