Exhaust vacuum

Post by Crash_Master » Sun Jun 08, 2014 10:26 pm

On an RS5 you can pull off the vacuum pipes in the boot and block them to keep the valves open, anyone know if you can do something similar to the RS4?

It's also valved so it'll work on the same principle.

Edit:

Having looked at this picture of the Milltek system you can see the valves so yes it'll be possible.

Different pipework so I can't see what to do, does anyone have any pics / diagrams of which pipe to remove/block?

Doesn't matter - there is only one pipe to the exhaust valves.
Just lay under the car and you'll see them. Best done with a cold car

I maybe wrong, but can't you set it so the valves stay open through the computer??

Hi Silas, I think that option is only available on the Drive Select if you order the sports exhaust.

Besides, every time you shut down the car, the engine/transmission and exhaust Drive Select option needs to be reselected even if it's in dynamic mode.

The demo might have a sports exhaust.

Not sure if it's still the case, but I knew when I was deciding on options it will affect the Drive Select screen. Below is the post I started some time ago. You can see if you omit some options when you specced your car, your Drive Select screen will be similarly affected.

I have drive select and the sports exhaust and it does remember the drive selection (unlike the RS5 I had), but only in individual, I leave it in individual and Exhaust setting in "Dynamic" but when I click down to "S" it gets louder so obviously only works when you press on I guess.

I think if I remember correctly if you have the exhaust set to dynamic mode in individual setting when you first start the car the exhaust valves/flaps won't be open. However, if you change into sport mode the valves/flaps open, now shift the box down again and it will go back to normal D but the exhaust flaps will stay open and should until you put the car back into P or N. Try it, but it may have changed since I had mine :beerchug:

+1 that's my understanding too. it'll always start with valves closed, but you can override through D/S selector. Becomes second nature on every start up now
