Hi guys

Post by hunter » Sun Nov 17, 2013 7:37 am

Morning guys from a rather cold north sea, I though I would put up this post before starting shift.

After having been a jap car lover in the past, times for me have moved on to german metal, but skyline gtr s will always have a special place in my heart. Now me and my wife have got into a habit lately of only having a car for about 8-10 months then usually led by my my head is turned towards something else. Currently we are running a glacier white SQ5 with the optional 21" wheels and I must admit it looks very cool for a Q5 and my misses simply loves the car.

Now a RS4 has always been one of those cars that I always thought was going to be out of reach, but I patiently waited on the new B8 being launched and I was sold on it and put my name down for a roadtest with aberdeen audi. The car was gorgeous and the noise ............mmmmmmmmmm, but I just didnt gell with the s-tronic box ( I had a 11 plate polo gti with dsg) So I left totally pissed off, and bought a nice used manual 11 plate S4 whilst out in baku. The car was waiting for me once I got home and it was amazing especially with the sports diff but the wife was drawn to the SQ, well you will know guys that when working away offshore/overseas that its good to keep the wife happy ;)

Well that was till I seen the thread on here about the special offer, and usual offshore boredom + audi configurator soon gave me my ideal spec ( damn you audi !!! ) a quick email to graeme at aberdeen audi and my build slot is now reserved for a delivery of march next year :jump: , with the spec I have chosen and the deal it works out the same a month as our SQ so win win, the wife has to still sign off on the colour suzuka grey so fingers crossed she will. Anyway I am starting to waffle now, overnight test drive booked for next weekend once I get off the boat...........will need to adapt to driving a S-tronic box , so here is the spec

20" 5 V spoke alloys
Sports package inc noisy exhaust mmmmmmmmm
hill hold assist
B&O audio
high connect
suzuka grey
privacy glass heated front seats
black leather/alcantara seats ( had these in the S4 and loved them )
heated front seats
advanced key
folding and dimming mirrors

Cheers guys for reading this boring first thread but to say I am excited is a understatement so god only knows what delivery day will be like, our first child is due in april so next year is going to be good ( already got recaro seat protector and recaro seat on order ;) ) :jump:

Sounds great, brave going for Alcantara, but if you are just handing the car back I guess it does not matter. Enjoy the wait, it is worth it!

Hey churchwa what dont you like about the alcantara ?, I had this seat combo in my S4 and I think it looks really nice and was very comfortable, did you choose full leather in yours ?, I love the look of the big winged recaro style seats but from seeing them in a B7 once the seat was adjusted for me there wasnt much legroom in the back.................plus the misses has said no more options ;)

+1

Don't think alcantara will harm the value too much, but when selling time comes, a lot of people will look for full leather, so may take longer to shift.

Personally I like alcantara but for the extra £460 I'll happily take leather!

I have a sepang on order from Stirling Audi, aiming for March delivery too, the wait is rubbish, but seems to be worth it!

cheers for the responses guys, I will see what the demo has in it and maybe go from there. It looks like my colour choice comes down to suzuka grey or ibis white.............or should i say what the misses also likes ;) , you have me undecided now on the leather option ?

The buckets are awesome and the B8 has more legroom in the back with them than the B7 did
I'm a smudge under 6ft and stil manage to carry 4 x adults in reasonable comfort in mine
Personally, the buckets make the RS4 for me, but I'll agree that the super sports seats aren't that bad

Re alcantara, we all know that dealers dont pay you for the extras that you decide to fit! - but personally I also prefer alcantara than paying extra for leather centres and also I feel its more comfortable/grippy. I always trade my cars back in at some point.

Power wise the SQ5 is actually a very rapid car and I think I am right in saying it has more torque than the RS so having personally driven b2b the SQ feels in some ways as fast! (flame suit on!!)..

Re the folding mirrors option, I think its only 100 quid more for the full convenience pack which gives seat memory and tilting offside mirror so I went for that instead (which includes folding option).

Re advance key, I have heard rumors on the security of this system (may well be false) so I didnt bother - i had it on my old s5 and it could be fooled say if you were at the boot of the car, my mate successfully jumped in and started the car up!!.

If the buckets are like the b7 rs, then if you plan to do longer journeys be careful! - I opted for the comfort seats in the old one and was really glad overall.
Buckets do add a certain racey feel for sure though..
Super sports for me this time too.

Super sports for me this time too.

The buckets are effectively identical to those in my previous B7
However, due to the design of the car as a whole, there's a couple more inches leg room in the back, so my normal driving position (ie brake pedal to seat front position) gives a bit more back seat room
It's certainly not what anyone would describe as 'S-class spacious', but it's certainly ok for 4 adults for medium journeys
I think I'm just bucket shaped as I find them very comfortable over long distances and they also have the added benefit of having plastic backs, so the muck from my kids football boots etc just wipes off

Agree, you rarely get the money you spend on extras back, especially leather and seat heating! But it can make your car more attractive when selling privately.

I had alcantara specced on mine until I looked at the seepang blue car for sale at leeds audi. The rear seats put me right off!

Key thing is, buy the car as you want it, not what someone else wants. Then you'll have years of happy driving!

Yeah guys the SQ5 does have a fair amount of grunt especially mid range, gave a few people a surprise ;) . I understand what your saying about the advanced key and after seeing the footage of how easy the guys advanced key equiped RS4 was stolen off his driveway , so its still one of those options that I may just drop.

I get off the boat on wednesday and pick up the demo on sat lunchtime so will report my findings on sunday once its back at the dealers.

cheers guys
