Insurance quotes

Post by churchwa » Fri Nov 01, 2013 8:57 pm

Chaps,

Who are we all using for our insurance?
My best quote so far is Admiral at £800 but are there any companies out there who do not appear on the comparison sites that offer a better deal?

My problem is the car is left on the street. (I know, I know)
Other than that, 35 with 18 years no claims and 0 points.

rsa (royal sun alliance) through compare the meekat cost me just under £300 49yrs clean licence wife named protected ncb,was actually quite supprised how cheap they were and expected to be told they made a mistake as i paid more 2yrs ago for my b7 but seems ok,keep trying the comparison sites every day as they do vary daily

I use admiral multicar for my RS4 and my wife's Mini
I think my RS4 would be around £750 on its own and I'm 37 with 2yrs no claims, 6 points and director job role
Surprisingly, insuring a car on the street is sometimes cheaper than having it on your drive like I do
I can't be arsed to put it in the garages every night, so if it's on the drive, the logic applied by the insurers is that a potential thief could easily identify which house to steal the keys from

Well I suppose this is ironic, although at this moment in time I am passed off. Woke up to find my BMW 335d touring M-Sport stolen from the street outside my house.
Due to collect my RS4 this month and am very worried about Elephant sorting things out in time. Hope they don't find it as otherwise I will be left with a stolen recovered worth nothing.

This is true, the street is cheaper than driveway and 3 points is cheaper than clean license so you are probably more careful.

If you read the small print wiht regards to garaged cars, they are not covered if stolen or damaged between 10 or 11pm and 6am if less than 3 miles of your house if not garaged. So if you drove the your local pub and had a drink and left the car there and it got stolen then you wouldn't be covered (only applicable if you told insurance company it is garaged at night).

Quite amazingly 380 from Direct line! - But this was a new business quote not a changeover so suspect it may be more. Have found the audi 'driveaway' insurance to be competitive in the past
B8 RS4 - Daytona, Privacy Glass, Convenience pack, B&O, Pan roof, Parking advanced,Hill Hold, Heated seats.
Audi Q7 Sline plus - Daytona, Tech Pack hi, Storage pack/Towing equip.
Past - 911 C4S (997), S5, S3, TT 3.2, B7 RS4, B6 S4, Boxster, '83 911SC, Corrado G60

A quick test of an "area" is to compare garaged vs non garaged.
If the quote is cheaper on the drive then it's because you are statistically more likely to damage the car with stuff falling off shelves or hitting it going in and out than you are having some random 3rd party damage or nick it.
