Harris on the S4 vs RS4
Re: Harris on the S4 vs RS4
His RS3 vs M135i review annoyed me.
Yes the RS3 understeers and has a dated interior but he insisted on making an extra point about it throughout the whole thing. It was like he had a personal hate for the 3. Some of his reviews are nice but it generally goes into 'look how I can get the back end out'.

There were a lot of mixed feelings about the B8.
He's not amazingly different to other car hacks.
The production is very fresh and the Drive brand is on point while remaining diverse, I like it, a lot.
Hairy Monkey is quiet eloquent but a lot of his reports are too safe (odd then that he doesn't like Audis, more on safe Audi later), I mean, if you continually make claims to "tell me I'm wrong", you'd rarely get it wrong, would you?
Thing I hate is, he always makes public schoolboy-style apologetics about driving a bit lairy, then, continues to drive lairy. Don't apologise then do something, you're not 8yrs old. Then when the car won't go sideways, the car gets a <beep> review, because slip angles are more important than real purpose. Now I understand a car hack of Monkey's calibre is mostly interested in "the pleasure of driving", the problem is, that's a subjective thing and Audi's don't fit into his sense of pleasure. So if peanut butter sticks to the roof of your mouth, stop eating peanut butter.
Audi have made no excuses about making safe handling cars, yet, the press continue to flog the dead horse and Audi continue to sell more and more cars. It must be killing the press that we don't listen them, in their eyes making us plebs, or maybe because we don't have a garage full of toys, or, maybe because we want a holdall that will get us and our other precious meat-sacks to destination B while avoiding a ditch detour.
It's the same story with evo but they choose not to make apologies about going sideways but they're still just as conflicting, when their photographer had to gallop home from assignment in Winterfell Scottyland back to the deep Saaaawf during the wee hours, just to witness the birth of his baby, he took a B8 RS4. Lo and behold, nothing but praise was heaped upon it and he could've wished for nothing else. A car cannot be all things to all men, it seems common that a car's design purpose is forgotten and that can be forgivable, but these guys are professionals, they shouldn't be leaning against horses flailed to death from flogging... only for the reason that horses aren't that accommodative for that many car hacks.
I digress.
Look, it's an avant, it's an AWD family car, it's fast, the engine is slung over the front axle, what did they expect the car to be like, a 355? Anyway, it's not too dissimilar to its predecessor, actually, it's quicker, so, the only thing left to rant on about is how the game has moved on, how it's too expensive and how it's a massive log in the current bowel movement of down-sizing... but it's not really that different to the B7. So what do they write about then? Well, to survive you need to sprout opinion and wheel out the dead horse because it sells magazines and, indecently, it's opinions that prop up my post count, so what do I care. It's just opinion and I'm drunk.
For the record, I love steering from the rear with throttle, I grew up in cars that were very good at it. But in this country, the quattro system never fails to impress and amaze me, even when coupled with big power. Oddly, I never long for RWD dynamics when I choose to drive the Audi, I never forget it's design purpose. Why is it so hard for the 'press' to remember?
No matter where you go, there you are.

This just sounds like fanboy dribble. Most commentators (whether you want to call them hack's or not) don't rate the B8, those reasons are known and see fair to me, they aren't outlandish put it that way. While you think it's ok to voice your opinion you mock those who have theirs. Please post your B8 review and we'll see what sort of hack you are eh..bam_bam wrote:Everyone liked the B7.RS4Owner wrote:Hmmm, not sure, his tests are highly regarded. It's not fanboi dribble, far from it, it's drunk dribble, it cost me a whole bottle of wine to write that and it seems you've swallowed all of it.
I'd never write a review, I'm having waaay too much fun creating malformed opinions based on other people's opinions to have you mock me for posting my opinions.
BTW, hack is just a word, it doesn't hurt anyone, you can lower your clenched fists and return to normal breathing... repeat after me "everything is alright in my world, everything is alright in my world, everything is alright in my world." *and exhale*

To summarise my perception of it, Harris is perhaps looking for a hooligan car, and the RS4 isn't that car without having to work it significantly harder than something along the lines of a C63
I like his work and it's entertaining, but you have to watch it for what it is - One mans opinion based on what he wants...

Re: Harris on the S4 vs RS4
Fecking hell Bam that was a sensible post and I agree with pretty much all of it - especially the RS4 being choice transport home from ecoty 2012. Yes snapper Dean Smith runs the RS4 on fast fleet, but it was Mike Duff who stole it to race home to his wife and baby. Metcalfe did a similar rapid return to homeland during ecoty 2004, grabbing the keys to the RS6 Plus to tear back to his wife after pikeys were invading his farm house and threatening to tarmac his driveway.....bam_bam wrote:B8 RS4.........
I've used up too much holiday this year at work to waste an extra day traveling, so a forthcoming holiday will see me leaving at sunrise and returning at night with work the next morning. I'm looking forward to the drive as much as I am the time on the south coast. I've barely driven the S4 this month - its sat gathering dust under the car port since a trip to Farnborough in April and the MK Meet at the start of May. So I'm looking forward to giving it a run, and there isn't a car I'd rather be in for the journey. If I set off early enough I might even go Hindhead as I've not been through the tunnel yet (although it does seem foolish to take the A3 which has other cameras as well between M25 and Hindhead if I'm early and able to open it up)
Hindhead - 60 mph specs controlled isn't it..........

It's duel lane national speed limit... but you can still do this
We averaged 55 through the tunnel, oh how I miss that full fat 'zoorst.
