Re: New Toy
Yes DK but when im in a position to use one more,i get home two weekends a month to use my b7 and ive wobbled on the ownership of it a few times, ive yet to see in the flesh or drive a b8 but the looks and gearbox have me smitten, handling and lack of midrange will have to be addressed unless miles better than the RS5 I drove.I like the rotors over the v spokes even though they are on every new audi.I have to say though im liking the looks of most new bmws and will demo a few.Il be interested to see how brooner gets on with this new beast.Dk what did you make of the one you had a go in?
Re: New Toy

I had a 40 mile test ride at the weekend in a B8 RS4 - standard car in Sepang except for the Lunar Silver interior which I must confess, I rather liked (I'm getting old....)

The car was very quiet, riding on Toyo Proxes which I would previously only considered for my wheelbarrow, but obviously these meet the Audi specifications.
Personally, I thought that the ride was far too soft, and I suspect that the drive select was on the softest setting as I could get power understeer quite easily. I think that the Sport Pack would be obligatory, especially for the sports exhaust, DRC and the V-spokes, Dynamic steering notwithstanding.
The car I drove, and I stress that it was on 19" wheels, was too soft for my taste.
I must admit that I didn't drive it like I'd stolen it, given that the salesman was sat next to me, however, when we got back to the garage, and I commented that I was slightly disappointed, I offered the salesman a ride in my B7 - he was amazed at the difference in characters between the two cars. Maybe the B8 is more suited to my advancing years, but it was a tad too refined for me. The test drive comprised A roads, B roads and A303 (superb)
The difference in character between the car's is remarkable. For me the B8 on the evidence of Saturday, has gone a bit soft for my liking, and that may well be the first time I've agreed with PetrolDave.

I think I'd need a test drive in a car with the Sports Pack and certainly over a weekend at least.
My car is in for an MoT at Yeovil Audi soon, and I may twist their arm for a longer test drive.
I don't doubt the B8's ability to cover vast distances at high speeds in all weathers, leaving M3s floundering in it's wake, but a "sports car" - I'm not sure.
The S-tronic is very nice other than it's voracity for getting into as high a gear as possible as soon as possible, if left to it's own devices. (I realise that CO2 is everything now)
Surely someone will be able to re-programme the ecu to overcome this trait (MRC...?). I realise that you can always drop down a gear or three with the paddles, but...
I suppose I'm looking for a more involving drive?
Probably the top Motorway cruiser though.
Only my opinion FWIW

Re: New Toy
Yeah, I'd agree
A short test drive gives you very little insight into the capabilities of the car, and that's before you start throwing in all the variables of adjustable steering, suspension etc.
Get your dealer to lend you the car for a few days, and if you feel the spec they have isn't what you're after, get them to source an alternative specced demo from within the network.
When it comes to selling a £60k car, they'll bend over backwards for you I'd have hoped
