Get a grip. What mpg are you expecting? Is it a deal breaker? Are you going to drive like miss daisy all the time?

Tbh if you are worried about mpg the chances are you can't afford to run a car like the rs4 in the first place, maybe a TDI is better choice

If you have to ask sir then you probably can't afford it (that's how the saying goes does it not?)

Just because someone is curious to know about mpg does not mean they can't afford it.

I remember wanting to know everything before I bought my car including mpg. Doesn't mean I can't afford it.

Maybe people just want an idea of what's its going to cost regardless of what their disposable income is. Maybe knowing where your money goes and what things cost you is why some people have a lot of money?

I understand your points of view above however give the guy a break.

RS4 Fuel Economy

Take the manufacturers quoted figure and subtract 10%.

A 70 litre tank running at 18mpg will get you circa 277 miles.

70 litres filled up at a motorway pump will set you back £105.

The majority of people asking this type of question are aiming to establish if they can afford the car.... The reality is they are ruinously expensive to run.

You can not justify cars of this type unless you are passionate about them and want them.....at which point, cost of ownership is an irrelevance.

MPG should simply be a sticky thread at the header of all RS, M & AMG forums.

I totally understand your point. I'm averaging 16mpg in an 'S' let alone 'RS'.

I just feel for the people who invariably get hammered for asking this question as in my eyes it is a legitimate question.

It's not like the car is going to do 10mpg is it, you are looking at just slightly lower than what Audi say, plus it depends how you drive it and in what traffic. His first question was plop!

.. .
And you know that how exactly? I must have missed the survey invite ;) Or perhaps you're basing your opinion on your own family/friends?

IME people owning nice cars often want to know simply out of curiosity. It can also come in very handy to know how much fuel your car uses.

Personally I know the mpg of every car I've owned with a reasonable degree of accuracy. I also know how much oil they use, what tyre pressures worked best, how much life I get out of regular service items etc. For no better reason than I can :)

I'd have thought someone with a user name like yours would appreciate that more than most.

Having a wee smile to myself reading through this thread. My initial request was just a general question and my first reply to was a very brief thank you to the two who did reply with valid information.

I don't need to justify to anyone if I can afford to buy/run an RS4. However, for what it's worth, I can go out and buy an RS4 outright today should I want to.

That takes nothing away from a generic question about how much it costs to run.

You have made a good point, a good mate of mine loves his cars and would love a fast Audi (or an M3) and he is in a financial position to buy one outright, however he squeaks when he walks and is very carefull with his hard earned. At the minute he drives a pug 208 diesel during his time off and whilst he would love a new car he just can't make up his mind whether the cost of running it is "worth it". I've said it is, but then that may explain why he's loaded and I'm not,
