DSG Question..

Post by Adams RS » Wed Sep 05, 2012 9:29 pm

Just wanted to check, when in manual mode if you don't change up fast enough should it automatically change up or hit the rev limiter?

It'll change up in whatever mode, it'll never sit on the limiter.

In the RS cars, it doesn't shift up automatically when in 'M', so you can bounce the car on the rev limiter. All other implementations of DSG will auto-shift when you approach the rev limit.

That must be an S Tronic thing. The RS6 most definitely changes up and I thought the 3 did the same, will have to experiment in the morning.

/\ has never driven an RS3 :bigblink:

The RS3 NEVER changes gear in M on the limiter it will just sit there

I was so used to the R32 just changing on the red line (ie i was lazy) coupled with the fact the RS3 blasts 1st and 2nd so fast meant it took me an age to learn the engine note to get the timing when to hit the paddle right just before it started limiter bouncing

DSG Question..

Admittedly I don't drive it much, the 10 cylinder version is my beast. So used to the 32 I guess I hadn't actually thought about it!

Still Doris is away and the cat can play.

Noticed this myself last night! My M3 CSL and E60 M5 both changed up themselves but last night when showing off I noticed it hit the limiter in 2nd and when I blipped to 3rd there was a slight delay due to hitting the limiter. This thing could do with shift lights!!!!

If you get the hear change right in 1st 2nd and 3rd this thing is rapid, I've for a 997.2 PDK sat outside and it feels just as quick, it is only when you get into silly speeds that the grunt of the porker really shows. Would love to put them on a strip together and do some tests!

YouTube hasn't got many "vs" vids and I bet there aren't many of these fully broken in yet, can't wait till M5 Board get a load up.

^TTRS is faster as its lighter
I pick mine up today
Iv blasted many top cars with the TTRS with LC drag

As for gear change, yes it holds and this is perfect. Can't tell you how annoyed I was with my s-tronic S4 that changed up for me when I didn't want it to, end up going up 2gears as I would upshift just after it upshifted. Rubbish

Ha ha! Thought you'd say that ;-)

I test drove a 2012 S4, really didn't like it, but then I suppose they have to save the best for the RS badge :-)

My only complaint with this RS3 is the lack of badges on the side, I'd like to see some little ones on the door like the RS4 :-(

TTRS not lighter due to it being filled with hairdressing kit!

Learn something everyday, does indeed hold, either I'd ignored that fact or forgotten!
