finally got of my immense ass and washed the car and mer'd it for the first time since i picked it up what 8 weeks ago
jebus it was filthy made worse by the fact the paint appears to have no protection or polish of any description on it
took 2 10ltr buckets of soapy water and jet wash to clean it
there a lot bigger than you think these sportbacks, 280mm shorter than the B5 which is not much
gave me a chance to give the nomad ago, its not bad, reasonable pressure, needed one refill but that was probably due to how rotten the car was and that the dirt stuck to it with no wax ...
bloody heavy to lug about loaded up but pretty good for hose pipe bans or for people like me where its hard to get a hose to the car (i have to run it through the house ...)

Spelling police alert.
Do you really use mer polish? Are you over 50 as my father in law is the only person I know who uses it.
If I were you I would tfr/apc it all over then get some good polish and lsp on it.

If it is new it probably won't even need polish. You'd probably be better just doing a deep clean with de-tar, iron x, clay bar etc then like chunky says get some sealant/wax on it.

If you're not going to do it then either pay someone to do it or perhaps don't moan about it and accept it for what it is after coming out of a dealership.

I can't remember what mine was like from the dealer as it went to the detailer not long after having it, who said the paint was not fantastic, scratches etc which must of been dealer prep!!
Love cleaning it now though.. Chemical Guys stuff is pretty good if your looking for stuff and 15% off codes about..

No point wasting my time explaining is there. Stick to your mer and stop moaning about your car, perhaps audi didn't put any polish on cause your not sad enough to top it up?

Water didn't bead on my car from the day i picked it up, there was nothing on the paintwork, should have got it something done at the time i guess ...
i spent a weekend at the NEC with the audi owners club demo'ing zymol stuff many years ago long before the OCD detailing scene had really started, this was the turtle wax era
the time and effort it took to do all the stages was shocking and the cost !!
i mer'd my car when no one was looking took 15 mins and was 95% as good as the zymol cars at the end, the zymol guy used my car to demo the paint protection to customers as the others weren't done and i spent the weekend enjoying the show, got a free zymol kit at the end which i flogged for £100
now i appreciate polish tech has moved on and you can get 20 stage systems made from panda scrotal extract for 2 grand but its just not worth it time or money wise, dealers give you book regardless
However I am open to being educated, and I have asked this before on other forums:
If you can give me a system that beats mer i will happily move over to it as its far from perfect, its impossible to remove when it gets wet
to beat mer it must:
take 20 mins to complete after the wash and not require me to break sweat
protect the paint over the winter without reapplication

I can't see that any polish only takes 20 mins to apply/remove. As for protection over the winter, Mer may do this to some extent but not to the same degree as a Dodo/Zymol/Autofinesse/etc product. Then there's the damage done to your paintwork by just slapping on the polish after a wash. You'll be in swirl city already. Until you've tried clay you won't appreciate the crap it removes. Paintwork attracts all sorts of <beep>.

mer really does go on and come off very fast, and it does not go hard even after a couple of hours, it makes white powder (not a problem on a white car) will not come off if wet and marks black rubber so its far from perfect
i am not obsessive about swirls, they are hard to see on white cars and tbh i don't walk around starring at paintwork from 2 feet away, its a good thing not to look to closely at an Audi's paint finish as there not very good.
i appreciate it is very old "tech" and I am open to a new system however
1) i am lazy
2) its a lump of metal to me not a garage queen
3) i eat pasties inside it

4) my time is valuable to me, spending 100 hours a year cleaning a car to add a couple of grand value is not cost effective, i could do a couple of weekends OT and get more
5) i am also tight, i would not spend £100+ on a car cleaning kit
oh and in the 5 years i owned my R32 it got washed 7 times, 5 of those where on its annual service at VW, but that was a lease car and i own the RS3
