A full postcode upgrade for the RS3 satnav ?? Very annoying being led to the middle of nowhere are being told you have reached your destination

Nope, and there's no hint of Audi releasing it either.funkygibbo wrote:A full postcode upgrade for the RS3 satnav ?

If I get the car out of the garage at the weekend I'll RIP my copy
That's a copied disc that has had the POIs added - and copied discs (because they are harder to read) make the laser get hotter and burn out.R5YUG wrote:Slightly related but I got a nice upgrade disc from Satnavsystems that has speed cameras as points of interest.
im sorry but im calling bollocks on that, been using burnt media since CD X1 was invented, never even heard of a laser burning outPetrolDave wrote:That's a copied disc that has had the POIs added - and copied discs (because they are harder to read) make the laser get hotter and burn out.R5YUG wrote:Slightly related but I got a nice upgrade disc from Satnavsystems that has speed cameras as points of interest.

You can call bollocks if you like but I've been a Moderator on http://www.audiforum.us (which deals with sat nav upgrades on Audis ) since 2005 and over that 7 years we've had in excess of 200 owners of the RNS-E that have had their laser burn out. And of those all bar 2 (i.e. 99%) have been using copied DVDs. So there is incontrovertible proof that using a copied DVD WILL increase the probability of your laser failing.Dave_Hedgehog wrote:im sorry but im calling bollocks on that, been using burnt media since CD X1 was invented, never even heard of a laser burning out
I'm no expert on DVD creation and etc.doodlebug wrote:In fairness I've also seen this, probably on other RNS-E fitted cars (probably RS4) on here. Whether the transports in the earlier units are more prone to it, I'm not sure.
The disc they have sold me under licence is a manufactured / printed disc not a burnt DVD DL ( had to have the original 2012 disc to get it) - although I'm fully aware how they have produced the POI using nav tech software. - I have used DVD DL copied media on all my previous vw MFD/MFD2 and RNS-E devices and never had any problems with lasers. I do agree in relation to the camera warning or lack of it though. I have a nice PogoAlert for that.PetrolDave wrote:That's a copied disc that has had the POIs added - and copied discs (because they are harder to read) make the laser get hotter and burn out.R5YUG wrote:Slightly related but I got a nice upgrade disc from Satnavsystems that has speed cameras as points of interest.
Plus you don't actually get any warning of the speed cameras, they are just silent points of interest - so what's the point of it?
And don't go to France with that DVD in use, the French police have been stopping people and checking if they have any devices (including OE sat nav) with speed camera data - because it's been illegal in France since 3rd January 2012 see http://www.theaa.com/motoring_advice/ov ... rance.html
