Engine start without brake being applied

I could be imagining things, but when I first got my car last week it wouldn't let me start the engine without pressing the brake first.
Fits with the 'to start engine message.... in the Dis' - however today I noticed that I can consistently be in park, nd not press the brake yet the engine starts fine.
Can someone please chek and confirm theirs? so I can add it to a growing list of niggles to sort out
Thoroughly enjoying the driving experience though! -thanks Guy

Yes mine does this, in fact I started it whilst I was standing outside the car the other day. Now the wifes A1 will not start until your foot is applied to the brake....

My S4 requires me to always have my foot on the brake. Different car I know but I would have thought same principle.

I would have said no, i'm sure it didnt. But just tried and it does even though the display says different??
I'm sure tho when I had it it wouldn't start unless foot was on the brake because i made that mistake a few times??

Well I'm glad it's not just me - I'm sure on day one of ownership I tried to start it in Park - and it wouldn't until I depressed the brake.
I guess the good thing is you can't move the DSG out of Park unless your foot is on the brake and the engine running.
Interestingly I sat in the car on the phone with the engine off, but key turned to accessory position for about 20 minutes and it started beeping at me with 'Ignition is On' coming from the DIS.
So question is should it only start without your foot on the brake or not - or is this one to quibble with the Audi Tech's?
I must say I'm impressed by the mpg this car returns if you drive it sedately!

Have you tried experimenting starting it in park /neutral or in gear with and without hand brake applied see when brake pedal needs to be applied.
Am sure the car would start in park without the brake pedal applied as the car knows it would not move

You can't move the selector/press the gear button from park unless the engine is running, I haven't tried switching it off in anything other than park yet. Will try that at the weekend...
The thing that concerns me is I'm fairly confident I tried to start the car the day I collected it and the engine wouldn't fire (even though it was in park) because I hadn't touched the break.
