Buckets or not ?

Post by funkygibbo » Wed Jan 04, 2012 12:12 pm

Happy New Year to All.

As I have previously written I have a RS3 on order with no build date yet, which leaves me all this time to think and rethink about my spec.

I have gone with the standard sports seats with all electric as I want to use the car daily and was thinking this would be the sensible / practical choice for the every day commute, family use etc.

However there seems to be a general consensus on forums that an RS MUST have buckets.

I would appreciate any feedback from anyone with or without buckets and their opinions on buckets for a daily drive, I would sacrifice some style for comfort.

Also thinking longer term how it may effect resale / saleability.

Regards

Funky

This one seems to split opinion - I'm with you that I would want the std sport seat with electric lumbar at the very least to make it comfortable for my (previously injured) back. Others feel the buckets are the only way to go.

When I had a B7 RS4 as a company car, I did like the buckets in it, but when I got home and stepped into my own B6 S4 Avant with electric recaros the difference in comfort was EXTREME!

I personally don't think you need worry over the re-sale value, as after all there is approx £1500 difference between buckets and electric standard seats. Will the bucket equipped car be worth £1500 more in 3 years time? I'm not confident that it will be, and there is a customer looking for each type of seat in pretty much equal measure (as this forum ably demonstrates).

Just go for the seat you want in the car.

If you want a comfortable practical family car for the every day commute buy a 2.0 TDi on 17s!

Buckets are a must for resale I'd say.

Whilst on that topic, the only other absolute essential don't-order-without options would be BOSE and cruise

I've gone for the standard seats, I've not had buckets in either R32 or RS6 and I haven't missed them. I'll take the extra comfort every time. If it was going around the track it would be a different matter. Having said that I have a mate with buckets in his RS5, I didn't get on with them at all!

I don't think buckets are a must for re-sale, infact I'd say that buckets fair far worse with time than standard seats.

the problem is the standard seats are just that

boggo standard crappy A3 seats

at least in a B6/B7 S4 you go Recaro's, like in the S5 / S6 / RS 6 / RS 5 you get SuperSport seats ... heck even the S1 will have SuperSport's ....

IMO, they are a must, if only because the standard seats are absolute PISH

Ian C

Why cruise? Had it as standard on my last 2 cars and never used it so certainly wouldn't pay for it.

Because its only £200 and most buyers would be wanting it. As you say yourself its standard on most cars nowdays.

They aren't the same as the boggo seats, they have bigger bolsters. Granted they don't go as far as the supersport seats, but the buckets are the other end of the scale.

Agree, I'd want cruise and BOSE. Infact buckets are pretty much the only box not ticked.

I have been looking at the RS3 as a option for my next car.

I would only look for Buckets as the car itself is not that special to look at in regards to an RS and the seats just give it more appeal.

I suffer from a bad back ( five operations to date) and the buckets in my RS4 are really comfortable imo.
Current : S3 8p while on the RS3 hunt.
Previuos : B7 RS4 Avus Avant | RS4 Sal | R32 | Cayenne | Z4M | R32

Aye.

Still, I wouldn't not buy the car because of the seats. I still wouldn't take the buckets at another 2k.

I've driven a few RS5s with both 'normal' and buckets.

I personally didn't like the buckets and my back was sore after a 2 hour drive

On track, as already mentioned, they would be awesome but I don't intend on taking my new car on track that much

yes but the "normal" RS 5 seats are supersport seats and are brilliant both in terms of looks and hold
