RS3 help please!!

Hello All,

I have been reaading this forum for some time now, and this is really a shout out to those on forum who have the RS3 for some help please.

I have taken delivery of my RS3,1 year after my initial deposit was placed at the local Audi dealership. Pearlescent black, with black styling package and tints and blackened wing mirrors....its very, well, black!! Just what I was after tbh. Looking forward to breaking her in gently before unleashing the rawness I think this great car has. A step up from my VW Edition 30 GTI (which I will miss dearly...I loved that thing!). Loaded with black roof bars, interior light/storage/luggage/light&rain/through load packs and high beam assist/active xenons/cruise.

On taking the handover yesterday, I was shown the interior "lock/unlock" button on the drivers' door. Illuminated with a central horizontal red LED. I was sat in the passenger seat at this point and obviously noticed the button on the passenger door. However, this was not illuminated with a LED (though there is one there)...nor is it active.

The salesman said that he did not notice this and stated that Audi have only recently started placing lock/unlock buttons on the passenger door, suggesting that is has been fabricated but not active. He called a colleague who looked at it and said it should be active. Long and short of it is that I'll need to take it in Saturday am now for the service department to look at it. The remote central locking works fine, and the drivers' lock/unlock button works fine also.

My question to those who have their RS3 cars: is your passenger side door lock/unlock button illuminated and active? If it is, I feel very much let down by Audi. This is my first Audi, my previous cars having been a 1.6 Mk IV Golf Match, followed by the Edition 30. I have had not issues with Audi's parent group. Any wise advice will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks to all of you who make this a great forum, and I look forward to reading your replies.

PS Also, is your central rear seatbelt slack, ie, not taken up fully by the belt roller? Cheers

Hi,

I'll try uploading a picture tonight when I'm out of work.

Have just spoken with customer services, and surprisingly my salesman has already spoken with them, informing them of the issue. I've had a loan car from Audi (11 plate 1.4 TFSI A3 S-tronic)...and had it for about 4 weeks, and for the life of me I cannot recall if there was a lock/unlock button on the passenger side. :bash:

Hopefully it's nothing serious and it will not interfere with the rest of the electronics or become a recurrent problem.

Nothing on the passenger side. This is either a new addition or a mistake on the line (Left hand drive)

Hi,

Thanks for that. Interesting...

It does seem odd...there is nothing on the documentation (diagramatically) that I have seen with the manual/quick start guide to suggest that there ought to be two buttons, though the documentation was printed in Q2 this year. Also, all the images are based on left-hand drive vehicles

If its a mistake... :audibash:

Customer services won't know what 's what with the car...or at least that's the impression I got when i spoke with them, only that they hope getting it working should be the key.

Any other owners out there with something/something inbetween/nothing?

Thanks again

personally, I dont think passenger side lock / unlock does exist - i could be proved wrong

if you car has a random button there, then I call production mistake, but again, i doubt how this could have got through QC as its pretty obvious !

I've certainly not seen such a switch on an A3 8P chassis of any type.

This NSF door mounted switch is, however, standard on A6 C7, A7, A8 D3, Q3.

I have had a look at the RS3 brochure online, where there is a nice image on page 31 of the interior (Continental set-up). There appears to be no lock/unlock button on the passenger side.

As has been said: it's either a production line error ( :audibash: :x ) or it is an addition to the setup as in other vehicles :?

We'll see what the dealership have to say and indeed if the button has anything behind it/can be activated.

I'll post a pic when I get out of work tonight.

Cheers

If it transpires it is a production line error that cannot be rectified, ie, button with no function....what to do? Anything? Advice please.

if its a production error, i dare say they can just replace the trim with a new bit ... plus some goodwill from Audi for the hassle, such as a free service credit or something ...

I've just taken delivery of a 61 plate S3. Same platform as yours and same door panels.

No switch on pass side on mine.

Hi,

I am interested to see if the dealership can make head or tail out of it, or indeed if there is a button-free solution. I have taken a picture of the passenger side door interior, it's a bit dark, but I hope everyone can see the button I'm on about; it's identical to the one on the drivers' side.

wow

looks like one massive production fcuk up !!

there is no reason this would be an addition to the RS 3 given new A3 in 2012

I've had 2 issues from new.

1 - one of the seats was marked on collection but the dealer ordered a new part rather than try and conceal it
2 - my horn sounded crap - they couldn't fix it when the seat was being sorted but it's in today and so hopefully will be sorted now

Over on another forum a guy had an electric fault in his gearbox which left him stranded. He's now being offered a new car.

Neither of my problems or yours are major but still a pain in the ass.

Steve

Also get some pics up of mini-vader.

Bit of a tease to come on here and not share your beast.
