Big Bang Theory

Car is currently sat back at the dealers - not good.....

Nearly home mid yesterday evening, one quick last blast before the cool down run onto the drive, 1st gear onto a short stretch of dual carriageway, full beans in 1st Manual, 6k RPM and a monumental BANG right up through the floor pan followed by the sound of metal eating itself.

I thought I had hit something, I pulled over instantly, got out looked all over the car, nada, nothing visibly damaged, engine ticking over nicely, under carriage blemish free with no warnings on the dash. Gingerly put it into drive, lifted off the break and let it pull forward with the door open (I was on a side road I hasten to add) and a very ominous rhythmic metallic clank clank clank clank.

Got it back onto the drive; rang Audi roadside first thing, tech comes out pretty quickly (impressive) jacks up the car spins front wheel, all good, spins back wheel....prop goes clank clank clank....put your hand on the haldex and it doesn't feel or sound happy.

Essentially it would appear there has been a torque turf war between the engine and the haldex and quattro lost....BIG style.

Car has only got 4700 on the clock and is 100% stock!

This one will be interesting....

(my Audi customer service experience continues to be excellent, 3.0 A5 s-line TDI on the drive and car back with dealer in less than 15 hours.....and on a Sunday)

Ouch! Sorry to hear that, very unusual for Haldex or even a prop to fail like that. I doubt you'll have any issues getting it replaced under warranty but a shame for the car to be off the road because of it.

Keep up posted. :beerchug:

Cheers chap.

Will miss it dearly but am sure I will be looked after.

The car continues to impress...the failure was at the end of an epic 60 mile point to point blat, not a beat missed....apart from the transmission letting go :-D

Liking the A5 Coupe....imagine the RS is monster.

I'm annoyed with mine for one reason - there is no button to move a music track back or forward.

That is a stonking engine that V6

It's got grunt....makes the BMW 3 litre d unit look quite weak.

My previous BMWs were both the twin turbo ones (remapped) which were stonking but they had no character whereas the audi diesel actually sounds nice !

Will do. Reasonably philosophical about these sorts of things, suspect it will be an iffy clutch assembly or something similar....glad it wasn't a girly pop though; a proper full fat BANG :-D

If you are going to do it, do it properly.
