Wasn't expecting that....
My first real encounter to see what the 3 can do..... against a B7 RS4 Avant. I thought it was Glenn at first because I saw a Daytona Avant on Moor House Farm roundabout as I approached but it wasn't. It was heading on the A19 toward the A1 / Seaton Burn like I was. And he was up for testing his car so from a rolling start from 30 up to the limit he didn't get away. In fairness I backed out after a while because I had the kids on board and he was by himself and I subsequently got caught up at the Seaton Burn ligths where he got through. Caught the RS4 up again on the A1 Northbound and once passed he pulled out behind me and to be fair I pulled a couple of car lengths on him courtesty of the s-tronic before traffic meant we both calmly backed out.
Don't know if the RS4 was anything more than Millteked but TBH I didn't think the 3 would keep pace even with a standard 4; if it was modified even better. But it does have me thinking of enhancing the car with an ECU and box map.

Re: Wasn't expecting that....
Don't understand why you didn't expect that as the rs3 is a quicker lighter car

Let's assume the RS 4 is healthy, 380PS.
RS 3 340PS
40PS difference
But 100KG in weight? Plus S-tronic shifts?

Re: Wasn't expecting that....
I've been saying this for months and have had a few runs with RS4's, this was always the outcome!

I was thinking I would gain up to a certain speed then the 4 would pull away but I never gained and the gap was constant until I backed out, that was what was surprising. From what some have said I should have clawed some ground on the shifts but not to be the case? Unless it was mapped.
Re: Wasn't expecting that....
I've had runs with saloons and avants, mostly on dual carriageways. From a standing start you will pull on one, and beleive me it very hard (unless you are on a drag strip) for the RS4 to get that space back. Rolling from 30mph say, is a slightly different story, but I like you have found that there is nothing in it.
When I'm really bored I will trawl YouTube to see if there are any RS3 vs RS4 vids but I am yet to find one. M5Board have a few which are questionable to say the least, showing Gaymans pulling on the RS3?
I've ran with a 997 gen2 C2S PDK and there is nothing in it again until silly speeds, we had this car as a courtesy car when our 991 was in for a recall. Both myself and a mate of mine were swapping between the cars for an afternoon and it is surprising how equally matched they were on A roads. The 991 is a different beast though, but what with all the damp weather the RS3 does do well

I paced a Cayman S in my RS4 B7 and it was pretty close up to around 70mph.
A PDK Cayman prob would have done even better..

It's all about power to weight ratio.D_K wrote:Let's assume the RS 4 is healthy, 380PS.

Re: Wasn't expecting that....
Ironic as I was at the tip this morning and as I was pulling out saw the same car going in so didn't get a chance to ask him about his car!

I would stand the 3 up against anything and live by the result even in stock form. It will be shadowed and bettered but you won't be sure until its done.....owned it since November and so far I haven't been passed in anger.

Had a drag with a SEAT Ibiza Cupra 1.4TFSI. Must have been mapped as kept the RS 3 honest up to 100!

I was suprised!
They are 180PS standard ... So maybe 240PS mapped?
But 300KG lighter?
