Running In

RS3 arrived finally this week - haven't really had chance to drive it yet due to travel but the first 50 miles seem promising.
What do folk think about running-in - I have tended to drive cars 'normally' (ie cane them!) from day one, and they never seem to have suffered for it, but I seem to recall reading somewhere (but I can't find the thread) that it's a good Idea to go easy on this particular engine for a few hundred miles?
Any thoughts?

I would simple drive normally but avoid full throttle, make sure oil up to temp before any fun and make sure the engine isn't laboured in high gears. Also good to make sure you vary rpm rather than sit at the same speed.

I've had the same concern with a 3 day old RS4. Dealer tells me to not drive it like I stole it for the first 500 miles - a flick through the handboook and you find (in the middle) that you should avoid full throttle for 2500KM...

I'm just going to drive it a bit more gently than 'normal' for a few weeks...

you want reasonable revs to keep the oil pressure up but as said not to put it under heavy load

i took mine up to 4k for the first 500 miles then started to increase the revs over the next 500 and the load, always on warm oil

I'd agree - spot on.
Revs are fine as long as not on a full throttle and not loading things
