Looks like it will soon be new tyres time.....What are members thoughts on quiet tyres?? The Continentals seem to generate alot of noise....

Never really been a Conti summer tyre fan although their winter tyres seem to do well. They were terrible on my previous cars as well for noise and grip (or should I say lack of). Will probably change to Goodyear F1 Assymmetric 2's or Michelin PS3 / PSS for a balance of grip, durability and road noise or the tried and tested on my old car, Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta's if they still do them at that time.

If you go to http://www.mytyres.co.uk and enter your reg. no. it will find all the tyre makes available in your size.

You can then sort the results by noise emissions (the new EU tyre labelling system)

It appears the Hankooks and Goodyear F1 Aysmmetric 2's are quiet. So too are Vredestein Ultrac Sessantas (remarkably so at just 67dB and which came out 2nd best in an EVO tyre test a fair few years ago)

Most of the Continentals come out at 73db  much noisier than the above.

I have found that tyre pressure makes a hell of a difference to the noise of the stock Conti's (much more so than with other cars and makes of tyre).

I found that my tyres were between 4 & 5 PSI under pressure when cold from the point of delivery; bringing them up to the right pressure made them much quieter.

The challenge for me was coming up with the most reliable way of checking pressures; I use the stock 12v pump that came with the car and validated it with one of these: http://www.amazon.co.uk/RACE-PROFESSION ... 647&sr=8-2

Interestingly, the VAG pump's gauge is almost spot on when compared with the above 3rd party gauge.
