and a set of ARB's, and better pads, and better DRL's.......
I don't believe there are any cars out there that wouldn't benefit in the owners eyes of a cosmetic / performance tweak here or there unless you spec it or its a hyper car that is custom built for you.
1 x RS3 or 2 x Mk6 Golf GTIs, is it worth it?

OK fair point but I just don't get why the engineers let it out on poor tyres, of all things to get right I'd though it would be those.P_G wrote:and a set of ARB's, and better pads, and better DRL's.......I don't believe there are any cars out there that wouldn't benefit in the owners eyes of a cosmetic / performance tweak here or there unless you spec it or its a hyper car that is custom built for you.
Mind you how did they let it out with a chocolate propshaft? It's things like that, that make me question whether the RS brand is what it used to be.

Because everything is designed to a budget. And tyres are whatever deal they can get. I tried to spec the tyres our A2 replacement is coming with and was resoundingly told that could not be done.

I'd expect that of a mass market car but an RS?P_G wrote:Because everything is designed to a budget. And tyres are whatever deal they can get. I tried to spec the tyres our A2 replacement is coming with and was resoundingly told that could not be done.
As for budget, surely it's cheaper to develop a decent propshaft than replace them under warranty - why do we accept this sort of failure on a £40k car? It's a disgrace (IMHO) especially on a car manufactured by a company called "quattro"

The pads on an RS 3 were also chocolate...I had to replace mine after 9k

Likewise and I'm not saying it is right, but that is the situation. If they designed the RS3 to be the best it could be it would easily have 400bhp which is what the 2.5TFSI is running in DTM or even more, would have magnetic ride and a carbon fibre prop shaft but then it would be quicker than an R8 V10 if that did not receive the same treatment / philosophy and who would then pay for a £50k A3? DK is right the pads were naff but the FOC upgrade has worked a treat.neckarsulm wrote:I'd expect that of a mass market car but an RS?P_G wrote:Because everything is designed to a budget. Let's face it, RS3 gen I was a run out model to use some of the last Sportback chassis' and a market they could see to capitalise on as there had been so much interest. Raid the parts bin, minimal R&D, maximum profit. You can't really say any RS model except maybe the R8 (and is it an RS?) is any different now except maybe some cosmetic bits because all the bits are in house in different models and nothing in any of them is truly unique. Gone are the days of the RS2 and RS4 because they don't need to, even down to the alloys. But then it is really any different at Merc and BMW?

The Suzuka one I spotted a month back? Christ, that was a company car, what did they say when it went in for service?!D_K wrote:The pads on an RS 3 were also chocolate...I had to replace mine after 9k
