Too early to tell for me Glenn, its different, the interior is nowhere near as good.. quality wise, and the ride is firmer for sure, but it feels faster then the RS4 to 70/80mph and doesn't handle anywhere near as bad as the reviews, the tyres must be the problem, as I have changed mine and its ace :)
cheers for info...
handling could be sorted easily with tyres, bars etc...as you say I doubt its a major issue though...

maybe need a back to back test with a B8 RS4 to make my mind up...
:kissmyrings:
B8 RS4 is a monster car, on full chat the engine is glorious and makes an even more wonderful sound than the RS3 (didn't think that was possible) although its very muted inside, the stock sports seats are the best in any car i have every sat in EVER

not sure on the interior business, the RS3s looks just like the TTs to me which never seams to get moaned about, the quality of the plastics seam identical infact on the B8 some small parts of the dash surround is extremely cheap and nasty compared to the RS3 (tap them they sound like a vauxhall), the weak point for me on the interior is the door card and handle which feels low rent but the B8s feels identical, i have been all over the new A3 and apart form the tech and slight change of layout the plastics feel the same to me

the tech in the B8 is 90% gimmick you will play with it for a week or two set it to how you want and never touch it again, the colour display in the middle of the dash looks crap and out of place, a high res white display with matching dial font would look so much better imo

the dynamic steering and suspension are just bloody horrible, makes the RS3 seem like a soft ride its totally unbearable even on millbrooks smooth service roads and you needed 100kg of arm force to hold it in the bank at millbrook at 110mph worst of all to me it gives the car an artificial simulation of sports car feel, i would love to drive the B8 with normal suspension and steering

the RS4s DSG performs identically to the RS3s (the same unit?)

the B8 is a BIG car and you can feel it but it turns brilliantly and stops superbly overall its amazing but 3 things put me off

1) it will depreciate in 1 year more than the RS3 will in 4 years at 65k for my spec and not being a limited run (especially when there are 4000 of them in the UK)
2) driving moderately by my standards down country lanes i only got 16mpg, in normal RS3 driving mode i would have been in single digits
3) the engine is dead below 4k just no pull at all (R8 V8 is the same), not an issue if you are on it but in the real world 90% of the time i am using the blown grunt in the 2-3k rpm range

its a fantastic bit of kit thou very very tempting

good points made Dave...
can you clarify the mpg point
2) driving moderately by my standards down country lanes i only got 16mpg, in normal RS3 driving mode i would have been in single digits
you saying the RS4 was 16mpg and the RS3 was single digits in normal driving...?

Found dynamic ride set up great on the B8 day at Oulton....loved the car but as you say the first 2yrs depreciation will be close to 20k... :audibash:

Yesterday evening I found 15 mins to sift through the DNS functions via wiper stalk in my RS3. (had a car for a few days now)

Am sure what I am going to say now is ny no means news for many of you but, while I have all the basic functions I would be able to change as with an MMI, by way of comparison, I find the MMI more practical and user friendly.....

Fiddling with the wiper stalk to make the changes does stoke my temper a little bit :FIREdevil:

Would it be impossible to run MMI software on the RS3's navigation system plus because after all the the MMI keys operation the screen are the same as the RNS-E or this is like comparing a MAC with a pc? ie they have nothing to do with each other.....?

Sorry should have made that clearer

RS3 in hoon mode 18mpg

RS4 60% hoon mode (taking it easy) 16mpg

I would easily believe single digits for the 4 in full hoon mode, it's hard to resist as well as the engine pulls like a truck up at the top of the rev band and makes an insane wail

For me the engine does not really work on the 4, all or nothing engines are great in a focused driver tool like the R8 and maybe the RS5 but for me RS Avants are about doing everything and a flexible engine is a prerequisite for that surely ?

Loose rule of thumb on my commute the 3 is getting between 28 and 30mpg on winter tyres with 4.5k miles on the clock now. I suspect it'll improve slightly when I have summer tyres on and with more miles in the engine. DK was quoting an average 26 over 7k miles.

I am at 24.4 over 4700....am bloody impressed with that as I pay no attention to fuel economy whilst driving it, I only track economy as a point of interest.

I have just done 500 miles in a 3.0 diesel A5, driving my normal style I managed a tank average of 35.6.....only 10 to the gallon better than an RS. If that doesn't give 25mpg context I don't know what would.

It's an RS ffs!
