Yeah I have spoken to Audi Uk but this was on Monday and only got the email about stripping the engine today, on Monday they said 'it takes time to find faults please be patient'

I've got another car being delivered tomorrow a Q7 and the A5 is going back. They couldn't get me an 's' model so I've got no hope with an R8 lol..

But as you said dismantling the engine is not ideal by anymeans and I have been logging all
my emails/calls to try and put a case together.. Does anyone know when legally I can push for a replacement car?

If there was a manafacturing defect then it is firmly Audi's responsibility. They need to put you back in the position you would have been in. It's a tricky one, but given limited mileage, length of ownership and invoice value I would be looking to argue that they only way you can be put back where you were is to put you in a new car. You can start to argue that the history now attached to the car has reduced it's value.

Make sure you keep a chronology, minute every call, keep the email chain(s).

I hate to be the barer of bad news but the likelihood of Audi giving you a new car is very slim if at all. All they are contractually obliged to do is rectify the fault, at best you could argue the toss and get a new engine but even then I think you would struggle.

Anther member on here managed a new car at discount, I think if a new car is all you will settle for that would be the avenue to take, but again I think it would purely be down to supplying dealer good will more than anything.

A very good friend of mine is a top trading standards officer and I know a few people who have been down very similar routes to this, not exactly what you want to hear but no point in wearing the rose tinted glasses as they say. Besides, as long as the car is fixed whats the issue?

Q7! Big old lump compared to your RS3. Probably a lovely car but probably not the car you want to be in. Good luck with it all.

The car is fixed, but arguably devalued and has been to bits which can introduce other issues. I think that is an issue for a car that is several months old and has 4k miles on it.

Dave Hedgehog received a brand new car when it's internals had a chat....so there is precident, though that was exceptional. I would not walk away from this without compensation of some sort, be that an extended warranty, several years free servicing, but you have to go in and keep to your guns.

Agree but just needed something for a wedding on Saturday as the back of the A5 is too small for people over a long distance, the old folks wouldn't enjoy it lol

Thanks for the advise though guys, will think about what avenue to take tonight

i didn't pay for the car, i had to pay to pay for the options i put on it over what was on my current car had but i got a discount on them, i also got a 5 year warranty chucked in, and an S3 DSG for 5k miles whilst i waited for the new car

my car also had a string of faults on it from day one and had probably been back 10+ times

it would have been easy to walk away and buy a 1M coupe but i am so glad i didnt, i love the 3 so much :blackrs4:

now yours is fixed i doubt they will take it back tbh, mine was only fixed a couple of weeks before the new one came

Good luck Mate.

I complained about all the issues with my door cards and the hassle of taking it back and forth and had some compensation.

They mentioned driving experiences and Merchandise but it never happened :audibash:

Audi Docklands have said the car has got a porous cylinder head and the coolant was getting through and behind the exhaust valves..

Anyway that looks like what the problem is/was, I should get the car back on a week Tuesday

Glad they've got a diagnosis though it's still fairly intrusive maintenance on a car so young.

I'd expect them to change the head and the gasket/fixings as well as all of your fluids including oil and filter. Make sure they do.
