Privacy Glass vs no privacy glass on a daytona grey RS3
Re: Privacy Glass vs no privacy glass on a daytona grey RS3
Cheers RCM and Gizmo...
Fact is Gizmo has a point... you can spot fake tinting a mile away - no need to be an expert while wrapping the alu bits would not be a bad idea even more so if the job is well made..thanks guys

Disagree on the tinting if done properly.
My old 535 was a showroom car that had everything but the tint which I wanted
The dealer got somebody do it and I couldn't tell

Agree that it is very difficult to spot when done well however you can never achieve the full factory effect with an aftermarket tint as you will always see the (more often than not orange elements) heated rear screen; I personally wouldn't apply an aftermarket tint specifically for this reason.535dboy wrote:Disagree on the tinting if done properly.

right enough you are Geek.... I had my friend buying an Audi A4 with aftermarket tinting... He didnt like it...the guy who owned the Shop where he went to have it removed told him that the risk was not his if the heater element got damaged in the process... I am one that would rather have the car factory spec then doing anything aftermarket unless it was specifically necessary
Re: Privacy Glass vs no privacy glass on a daytona grey RS3
The heated rear screen element stands out and any window with the ‘dot matrix’ around the edge (which is most bonded windows) will have a lighter shadow where the film cannot stick to the glass between the dot matrix.535dboy wrote:Disagree on the tinting if done properly.

On OE privacy glass the heated screen element is behind the tinted glass so the screen does not stand out, likewise with the dot matrix.

Fussy or just didn’t know the difference??
All i was trying to do is point out to the OP that firstly there IS a difference to privacy glass and tints…quite a big one IMO, my car has factory sunset glass and is much nicer to drive at night than SWMBO’s which were tinted to factory darkness.
Tints are also a modification that should be declared, granted from 40’ away they do look similar.

Privacy + roofrails makes it look like a hearse (like ours)!
On a serious note though my range rover has aftermarket privacy which causes total chaos with the radio reception with the antenna which is in the glass. Be careful what window film is used!
