I'm going to find another RS 3 and take it for a spin and compare

I know the B7 is heavier up front and has fatter rubber, but I'd expect Audi engineering to be able to give the 3 enough grip to pull itself off the line without spinning its wheels.
And even more so considering the engine hasn't been run in fully yet. I expect it is not at it's maximum power yet.

Also, aren't the front tyres fatter on the 3 than on the TTRS so should give more grip?!?

Like I have just said in another thread DK, you need to get off those Conti's first to see how good the RS3 is. I changed over to winter tyres yesterday and somewhat ironically on to Conti TS830P winter tyres and the confidence they give you over the standard Conti SC tyres is huge. I'm almost tempted to try and sell the summer Conti's on E-bay and buy some Goodyears's or Michelins for when I change back over in the spring. I reckon it may still need some ARB's but I can't believe how much the tyres have made a difference.

I've said it many times, I was shocked by how little grip the wife's car has and I can only assume it is the tyres.

Dave, haven't you got a set of wheels that will fit with decent tyres to try it out? Maybe off the seat? I'm sure there is someone close by that can lend you a set of front wheels to try out (with decent rubber).

I tried to replicate this in mine last night as I was out and about in sub 2 degree temperature.

Even using launch control like gear change I would only get the little flashing traction light every now and again? It gripped very well, as good as I would expect anyway?

This was on a quiet straight road, no corners involved, it may be different then.

I'm on the Conti's, they along with the car, have covered just shy of 4k miles.

I've not driven a TTRS to compare but it is a hard comparison to the RS4 because of the low down torque no? The RS3 shoots of where my old RS4 wouldn't start pressing on until after 5k rpm?

I'm no experienced driver, but it may be something else with your car and as it hasn't even had its 7 day birthday it might be worth popping back to your supplying dealer?

Yes H&R. I posted the link on RS3OC but guess that link wont work either.

Alex gave me the price. Want me to dig it out for you?

BTW: Wanted to ask how you solved the door rubber/noise ingress. Read you had a diy fix?

Cheers

I won't be putting Conti's back on come change time; I have already priced up a full set of Super Sports on Camskill. I think the Conti's lack feel as much as they lack grip; I needed to put rears onto my e61 M5 when I traded it a few years back, I had always put PS2's on it but flipped to conti's as they were cheap and I was getting rid.......even after a good few hundred miles the TC light would still come on at anything more than 3/4's throttle whereas you needed to nail it to provoke a spin with the PS2's. The PS2's were very predictable and progressive, the conti's appear to surf the road and don't tell you when traction is about to be broken.

Cross country In the M5, this would translate into some rapid steering wheel input and a possible change of underwear whereas In the RS3, it seems to turns into unremarkable understeer.....good from a safety aspect but quite dull if you like your dramatics.

TBH I just fed the rubber strip surrounding the window frame with Aerospece 303 protectant, applied a little heat to the moulding with a hair dryer and then used a little old fashioned brute force to bend / push the rubber moulding towards the window. It was cold enough outside that it cooled quickly and now I don't appear to have the issue anymore. May not be enuogh for everyone and may not be a permanent fix but worked for me so far.

Mr P_G

Ahem, my phone does not seem to have been ringing regarding this proposition??? :D

Everyone else

By the way, Conti tyres are not "<beep>" just not always suitable to every application. You will find this with most tyre brands strangely.

If I may be so bold as to suggest that maybe not pressing the loud pedal so much in these cold and wintery times may help with any
traction issues you are currently experiencing. , I would like to point out at this time the we at Revolution can happily provide you with
a veritable assortment of tyres that will enhance the handling abilities during these trying times. :jump: (Shameless plug, I know  )

Please feel free to contact me with your needs.

Hard to compare the b7 rs4 as it's perm 4wd with torsen centre diff so doesn't suffer anywhere near as much as haldex type systems in these scenarios. It reacts to torque loads through the system so id very very fast.

The only real downside to haldex is that it is essentially FWD until the front wheels start to lose grip. Now in theory the system should be able to react quick enough such that it detects preslip before the ECU pumps the haldex clutch closed and starts sending power backwards. You shouldn't be getting bags of front wheelspin and nothing from the rears.
You may get a "chirp" but certainly not that much. I would say that it is worth a trip back to the dealer but I'm surprised there isn't monitoring of the haldex diff.
