To be honest it takes quite a big difference in power before you really notice the difference from behind the wheel.

I'd be worried ... you should have trounced it to 100 :bigwave:

Did he have a jump start on you ? ... must have been a Stage 2 map otherwise or something !

But 300KG lighter?
Makes sense.

We do all get hung up on what is quicker than what...in most cases all we are ever talking about are fractions of a second in a theoretical world. In reality on road differences simply aren't that visibly vast......

A colleague used to have the A1 185ps - and on a dry road it would see off a Focus RS until above 100mph, without mods.

totally agree with that. I drove up to a Ford dealership in a 435bhp VXR8 and test drove a 300bph focus RS (mk2). despite the fact the Focus on paper and in real life is a fair bit slower than the VXR8 it felt pretty much the same (a lot smaller obviously!)

Got back in the VXR8 and drove home and I didn't think "wow I can feel those extra 130bhp"

Take the hand brake off

My OH has a 180bhp 1.4TFSI polo GTI (and breath) and whilst its pokey (faster than my R32) it would be a dot in the mirror of my 3 from a standing start to 100

1. it was a rolling start, from about 30mph
2. it was obviously mapped as it was lowered
3. what dont you understand about WOT ?!?!

I over took it eventually by 100, but it kept me honest

live with it, the RS 3 isnt THAT fast !

R8 V10 tops 2nd gear at 70mph, now thats fast !

When DK took me for a spin in his RS3 I did think it was quicker than the RS4.

Not keen on the interior though looked and felt cheap.

Definitely needs buckets to make it feel special.

I don't want buckets, read too many horror stories about them sagging and wearing badly... I actually like the standard seats :) interior is not a patch on the rs4 but I'm preferring the mpg already ;)

I remember my vxr8 - power was there but so was nearly two tonnes! ;)
'Nippy' was never a word I'd have used to describe it. Was awful driving in London.
But once moving it was hilarious - to the point where drifting every corner became monotonous!

3 possibilities come to mind

1) the other car had far more than a light tune to it

2) your cars a bit pony, coil packs are a vag Achilles heal

3) you have a vagina

So far the evidence is pointing to 3 :)

TBO I have not yet ridden in an RS4 so can't say how faster or slower it is than the RS3 - and I cannot compare build qualities.... but i have seen a fair lot of premium segment cars... quite frankly the 3 performs very very well in terms performance, (speed and acceleration) and comfort (even though I don't have the full bucket seats in mine)...

I must say that to buy this car i had to stretch a little bit my budget because as i have said in an another thread - I was even looking at the S3 but as many of you chaps pointed out to me... the RS3 is in a different league.....I love the car and it's cult status for me from beginning to end.... can't say it's perfect of course ( I still prefer the mmi over the rns-e for eg) but it's very well damn close.......

Three weeks back on the M1 i think, there was a v12 merc approaching me fast on the outside lane - it still felt like David and GOliath - but the RS 3 kept things uncomfortably close for the merc and - that - baby is what I was looking for all along - an under rated pocket rocket :)
