I haven't driven either the S4 or RS3 but i would love both. Had a really good look around the RS3 at Swindon Audi after ADI and the car is beautiful. If it was perm quattro it would be a very hard car to beat imo. The engine is meant to be fantastic and very easy to tune.
The S4 is also a nice looker if you don't want in-your-face. The engine in that is also great, just look at how quick the MRC one is.
It all depends what size car you want and if auto is a big factor.
DK, you know more than anyone on here how good each model is but for fecks sake ditch the toss tyres, tyres can really make a good car sh1te.

I have a soft spot for all of Audis S and RS models and one of the great things about them is that they all appeal for different reasons. I'd considered an RS6 but the daily running costs were prohibitive, I like the S and RS3 but the boot isn't big enough for my needs, the S5 and RS5 don't really have dog carrying capabilities - well, not according to the RSPCA! So I was left with the S4 or the RS4 and as I couldn't wait for the RS I ordered an S4 BE with ADS, sports diff and a few other nice things. For me it's all the car I need, real world performance and handling are not far off either the RS3, 4 or 5, the engine is a belter, the interior is great and the boot is big enough for my 2 labs.
I'm sure it'll have it's problems during my ownership but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. The RS3 is a great car, IMHO, just not suitable for me - and the S4 is better any way! (Joke)
