The little things

Post by Dave_Hedgehog » Tue Jan 10, 2012 8:41 pm

Got some time on the car now and there's some surprising differences to the R32

The front Xenon's are utter <beep>, the golfs used to light up what seams like 300% further down the road, you can hardly tell these poxy things are on ....

The rear brake lights on the other hand are 300% brighter than the golf, you can read the time on peoples wrist watches ...

Whilst on the whole its a very high quality space the stalks have a very low rent feel to them, especially the wiper stalks click which feels like it cost 2p, very nasty, the temp dials are very poor compared to the golfs as well, vastly better feel and much better to use

and I cant work out how to control the fan speed on screen demist.... or how to end a call on blue tooth lol

Good Morning Dave

Out of interest, are these just small criticisms, or are you generally unhappy about the build / parts quality of the of the car? I have heard of other owners mentioning (small) issues with build quality.

Tiny little nit picks, on the whole it's a very high quality product, especially given its age, the 45k A5 I had didn't seam any better apart from the colour trip computer and larger screened sat nav that was a little bit more enhanced

I suspect the lights are dimmer because of all the beige twats that complained about being blinded by HIDs

Haven't really noticed an issue with my front xenons, I can see great but can't compare to an R32.

With regards to ending a call you just press the same button on the left hand side of the steering wheel.

My R32 used to light up what seamed like 2 miles down our country lanes the RS seams like a third of that

Thanks for the button tip :)

Our Sportback doesn't have them, but mates Sportback with xenons was spectacular the first time I went in it at night time, absolutely no need to use main beam. That was a prefacelift though, maybe the facelift lamps aren't so good?

I agree that the fittings may not be of same quality as my mk 5 R32, but the lights are as good. I would get them tested to make sure that dip and aim are within parameters, any MOT centre can do that for you!

Hi,

I have no frame of reference when it comes to xenon lighting, as my previous cars have had standard headlights. The only point of referral I have is being blinded by oncoming drivers who have xenons.

I have to agree with Dave that the xenons are disappoining. I have the adaptave xenons so I have absolutely no control of beam height. The road just does not seem greatly lit (or as I would have anticipated tbh  )

As I found out with the heated seats being not that brilliant unless on full power, I suspect there has been some element of reducing the power...

Just my 2 pence worths...

You probably can adjust the adaptive headlights. The adaptive ones in the B7 can be manually tweaked. Have a look for big obvious plastic screws over the top of the headlight housing. There is probably one for up/down and left/right. Count the half turns like your life depends on it or you'll have a headache on your hands!

I didn't notice them being rubbish until I nearly ran over some poor sod walking down a country lane one night. I then realised they'd got gradually lower without me really noticing, to the point that dipped headlights were practically useless. Careful fiddling the next day and the dips are great again.

If you get stuck have a search in the B7 RS4 section - there's whole thread on there around Christmas time.
