i'd keep the rs4 as the r8 was not that impressive,rs5 didnt impress me either,i swapped my r8 for a a6 allroad with a 3ltr diesel,i'm really impressed with it as a real world everyday car,was thinking of getting the new rs4 but i'm not so sure now as 50mpg and £170 road tax is a nice change now as winter is on its way, drive a few different models and see what you think
Re: thinking of buying an rs5?
LOL
How is an R8 not impressive?!
You sound like my Director at work, he's got a brand new '62 plate R8 and hates it. But its because he is drawing his pension and normally drives A8's, he only ordered it for the 'image'
If you are an enthusiast and love driving, the R8 is the daddy

just the thought of trying to open the drivers door at 5am when its frosted the window to the door rubber is enough to make me not want one for the winter as my daily driver, also the v8 is just not fast, my 3ltr tdi produces more torque, and my 71 road runner with its 440-six pack will leave it for dead,i will try the v10 next spring and maybe buy one but i think you would agree that the v8 just looks good but is not that special anywhere else maybe thats why you got rid of your v8 after 3-4 months and got a v10

Re: thinking of buying an rs5?
6 months!
Yes the V8 is not massively fast in a straight line but is as fast as an RS4/5/TTRS etc but with mid engine layout and chassis its a totally different driving proposition
But yes whilst it can be used as a daily, i wud recommend having access to another car as there are just some journeys an R8 is not suitable for

Re: thinking of buying an rs5?
Iv dragged R8 vs RS 4 and thep R8 is marginally quicker due to less weight
Re: thinking of buying an rs5?
Bought one anyway....and am loving it....

Re: thinking of buying an rs5?
Dk - I agree totally.
I never personally got on with the r8 on track but it still is a great car to DRIVE.
As soon as you have somebody start on about a diesel barge having more torque then I'm afraid point/missed.
Just remember - engine torque needs to be translated into forward motion by a gearbox and diesels have huge ratios that make the torque largely moot. Look at the new electric supercars type things. Loads of banging on about 1000lb ft torque... Well they are direct drive so the torque is a lot less. For comparison, rs4 has something like 3000lbft at the wheels in 1st...

Did you drive the new RS4? I have and I am having a dilemma as to whether to get the new face-lifted RS5 or an RS4. I wasn't blown away by the RS4 but I wasn't the first time drove the B7. It needs to grow on you I think.
Saving circa. £10k on what is a similar day to day "driving" proposition but in a coupe shell appeals.
Re: thinking of buying an rs5?
Yes buy the RS 5 instead of '4
Re: thinking of buying an rs5?
Why? For me the RS4 is the better package overall. I would rather have an RS5 but only for looks. Surely the better package is the 4?D_K wrote:Yes buy the RS 5 instead of '4

The dude said £10k saving, for the same car?! £5k per rear door is pricey!
