An RS5 build thread
Re: An RS5 build thread
Chrome zorst tips but blacking up the grill?
Re: An RS5 build thread
Yeah the front end looks good all blacked out with just the rings and badge. The chrome exhausts will match the Audi rings and help make the car look wider by giving a point of reference at each side of the bumper. The current ones need refurbished anyway so I figured I would give them a go. At the minute to me the rear is just too much black with he exhausts shape lost and needs breaking up which these will do.
Disappointing about needing spacers smaller than they produce as hubcentrics though. I don't fancy using flats to get the right look.

Re: An RS5 build thread
I see what you mean about the exhaust looking a little lost at the back. The chrome will make it look less TDi and more RS5.
The ride height is much better but personally I'd like it a bit lower, and you definately need to get some spacers on there!! Lower and wider Gaz!!

Re: An RS5 build thread
Would you use non hubcentrics Mike?
Re: An RS5 build thread
Cars looking good gaz, what's the problem with 10mm all round for spacers?
Re: An RS5 build thread
The wheels go beyond the arches the front by a couple of mm but the back by a good 4-5mm with the 275 XL tyres on. I may go for a different tyre type but not size when they need to be replaced.
Re: An RS5 build thread
I didn't realise you had 275's that's makes sense, what tyres do you have?
Re: An RS5 build thread
I will have to look. But it is supposed to be on 275's as far as I know. They previous owner has different fronts and rear but they are paired at least.
Re: An RS5 build thread
DK managed 15mm rears 10 fronts, my car couldn't quite do the 15's on the rear didn't look good, but 10's are fine, I'm running 265's though, don't understand why his was ok with 10's and your isn't, must be tyre size
Re: An RS5 build thread
Maybe the tyres I have on have a different wall thickness and angle. The rears are XL with lot of protection which is good, the front are much more flush. The front needs a thicker spacer than the rear which you can see by eye. For me I would go 8mm front and 6mm rear when running 275s. Weird how the RS4 and the RS5 run different tyres widths on the same wheel size. Anyone guess why, theres only 5kg between the two.
Re: An RS5 build thread
Well having black wrapped the silver grill surround and and the mirrors I finally decided I preferred that look and have sent the car off to have them sprayed. The boot had a lot of vertical scratches from the last owner closing it and catching their wedding band on its edge. So the boot and mirrors are getting done in Panther Black, the grill surround and the black plastic rear under tray in high gloss black.
Also debadged it but am missing the badges and the flash of red they bring so got some new ones that will go back on after the respray work.

Re: An RS5 build thread
A quick update. I liked the look of the all black front grill and surrounds and the black mirrors so got the wraps removed and sprayed the grill surround High Gloss Black and got the Mirror backs colour coded Panther Black to the car. Hated the under piece at the back being black plastic so that got that sprayed at the same time in High Gloss Black too. The outside of the car now is nearly there now. A couple more bits to spray that bug me, those being the Exhaust hex pattern surround (black plastic) and refurb the exhaust tips. The strip of black plastic under the spoiler which only shows when raised but stills bugs me so that will be getting done at the same time. After that I have the the age old problem, what wheels to put on her.
A couple of updated pics some taken a week or two ago in a nice woodland setting and the black and whites today, hope you like for now

Re: An RS5 build thread
So been a while since I updated this post. Since then I have done a few bits and pieces. Bought a couple of new caps in the chrome style which are straight fits for the engine. Decided it would be good to get it up to MRC Tuning to have a look at things and see where it was at. Upon putting it on the RR its first run was a 401, which promptly came up to 422 after a couple of runs. The guys at MRC then did a stage 2 remap which saw the car drag itself up to 432. Doug said this was a disappointing figure and that he felt there was more to come. I booked the car in again for it to have a full carbon clean, the guys mentioned they would have some new software through for the gearbox in the next week or so and so I coincided the two jobs so that they would be done at the same time. Last Saturday I dropped it in and tonight they told me the figures were now up to 465. I pick up the car Saturday but am very happy with the gains and am very interested to see how the car drives with the bit of extra power but more importantly the newly set up gearbox.
Unfortunately a suspension warning has raised its ugly head again so will have to get that looked at. Last time they changed a sensor on the rear left and I am hoping its the same thing again so it will be covered by warranty.
