Goodbye RS5.....

Post by northernpar » Sat Jul 19, 2014 6:33 pm

.....Hello new RS5!
IMG_0083.jpg
After much deliberation, a test drive in a C63 AMG, a quick look at an F-Type/911/M4 and a flirt with a new R8 V10 (next time maybe!) I plumped to trade the current RS5 for a new RS5.

Suzuka Grey
Black Optics
Convenience Pack
B&O Sound System
20" Titanium Rotors
Sports Exhaust
Privacy Glass
Mobile Phone Prep - High

Car in stock and waiting to be collected only problem being some <beep> in a Ford Fiesta rear ended the current RS5 last weeks so just waiting for the repair to be finished which will likely take a couple of weeks. Not major damage - rear bumper cover and diffuser marked so need changed - but the insurance claim process seems to take forever. Will be fitting the original 20" rotors back on the car before handing back so might have some 20" V-spokes - mint with good tyre tread left - coming for sale sometime soon (pm if interested).

The new car looks great ; really like Suzuka and really like black optics. Add Rotors and B+O to make even better !
Out of interest, and reason why you decided against the C63 ?

Enjoy the new RS5

Each to his own I guess, personally I like the FL - if you're that keen of the PFL looks then there'll be a Sepang Blue MY10 appearing at Aberdeen Audi in the not too distant future.

Steady on, I prefer a V10 R8 to a PFL RS 5!

There were a number of factors. The C63 was good to drive but it's a car that looks good from certain angles and fugly from others so I couldn't quite convince myself with that. Pricing was competitive as they are offering the C63 at a discount - presumably clearing inventory before they phase out the N/A engine. The dealership experience wasn't inspiring (Arnold Clark now have the Aberdeen Mercedes dealership and I may as well have been enquiring about a £5k used Ford Fiesta) but mainly the looks/styling. Also living in a part of the land that gets more than its fair share of inclement weather I also like the confidence that the 4WD gives.

Well if we're going to compare apples with apples then I too prefer a V10 R8 to either a PFL or FL RS5!

TBH I almost signed up for a new V10 but there was a part of me that I couldn't convince to part with the cash (as a Scotsman I can only assume it is somehow linked to some genetic predisposition to being tight with money!) so I decided to have another go with the RS5 and revisit the decision in a couple of years.

Styling is a very personal thing and with the rs5 being one of the best looking Audi's ever, I'm can see why the Merc couldnt win this one !
It's just that engine in the 63 though ..

Yup, had a look at there and almost went for a panther black 550PS that was down South.

Good choice I too prefer the facelifted version

Can't help but think the V10 R8 values will tumble a bit when the new one arrives (fingers well and truely crossed).

Aye. The problem is that the new one will make the old one feel prehistoric. It's nigh on eight years since introduction. Audi really have rinsed this one! I'd take 991 over R8 at the moment, that might change when the new R8 is announced, though 991.2 isn't far away. Turbo S makes V10 feel pedestrian.

V10 values will be fine. Look at the early Gallardo's....
