New addition.....

Post by northernpar » Sun Feb 02, 2014 8:20 pm

So, after a period of unrest where I was considering swapping the RS5 for an R8 V10 I had a brief moment of clarity (or insanity depending on which way you look at it) and decided to keep the RS5, for now. However, to sate my need for an alternative means of transport I bought an MY13 Jeep Wrangler Sahara 2.8 CRD 2 door in black. Now I know a few may consider this a bit of a ladies car but there's some method in the madness.

When considering why I was looking to change out the RS5 it was mainly because I'm not getting the benefit of the car as I used it as a daily driver. So generally spending most of the time plodding through traffic on the commute and when I did get to a back road for some spirited driving the road conditions have generally been pi$$ poor for what feels like forever. So in steps the Jeep, fitted with a tuning box I've managed to take 2 seconds off the 0-62 time, down from a stock 10.6s to around 8.1s (trust me, you don't want to be going fast in a box with a high centre of gravity!). It'll tow my bikes when I need and will get me out and about in all weathers. The finish is not bad and it's got all the gadgets I need (decent stereo, iPod interface, bluetooth h/f etc.) and if i really want to go 'super gay' I can even take the roof off in sections!

Now the really big benefit is when the sun is occasionally shining I can now jump in the RS5 and after driving the Jeep it feels like the proverbial 'rocket ship' again. Another benefit is now that I'm driving it less I don't have to clean it as much so can keep it nice and shiny in the garage and there's very little miles going on it which should/might help residuals :beerchug:

The R8 V10 decision is now deferred until 2015 when hopefully the RS5 B9 hits the streets (hopefully with the 4.0l twin turbo) and I can make a proper comparison. Might even throw the new car net a bit wider and take a look at Aston's and Fezza's.

Happy days indeed.

Funnily enough I was looking at those the other day after speaking to a customer who had one. My first thought it how expensive the current new ones were!! I remember the 4.0 SWB open top petrols from the late 90s, they must have been a hoot
