Hi spec RS5 Cabrio

Post by alphamail » Tue May 14, 2013 2:27 pm

.

I have an R8 V10 manual, ceramics etc. I am being pressured by management to buy a car which can take young twins and herself on trips. She's got a remapped Q5 which is great fun for her and not bad for trips to Waitrose etc.
I am thinking about buying an RS5 cabrio but I would like a great spec and would want to put a sports exhaust and engine performance enhancement package etc
If any one hears of a vehicle for sale or any can offer sensible advice, I would really appreciate the intel. I know it will be a come down from the V10 but I have to go through a period of maturity and sensibleness which so far in my life I have managed to avoid.

Can't help thinking you will regret it?

It's a heavy old beast and not a patch on the R8.

I'm wondering whether it would be better to pick up a low mileage RS6 saloon and wait a year before going for the later model RS6 or RS7.

whats the q5 like as i have a SQ5 on order for sept but after seeing one in dealers it does not look anymore special than a std one, engine specs are good though bi-tdi 320hp 0-60 5.1 secs  40mpg and £190 tax year.
thanks :beerchug:

Hi 8'
I am an Audi junky and love the general styling of most of the Audi range. The Q5 in my opinion is a good balance of form and function. As a second car the remapped 3.0 TDI has a surprising amount of grunt and it has good off the lights acceleration plus long distance travel is a doodle.
I have just rented a Touareg and I have to admit, the extra boot and cabin space is pretty impressive. However, I live in London and the Q5 is a much better city car, easier to fit in those tight parking spaces and narrow enough not to be a mobile road block.
I might go for a test drive in the SQ5 to compare it. Moreover, it might be a good bargaining tool if I buy an SQ5 for management thus improving my leverage to get the car I want. I personally like the SQ5 concept even though it is a mobile understatement. I would probably take a trip to ABT or MTM and put some decent pipes, suspension etc, although I wouldn't want it to look too footballer's wifey.

I don't know what your car brief is? So I can't really comment on its suitability for you. For me, having had the q5 for nearly 3 years, I am really pleased with it.
What's your spec? I would highly recommend panoramic roof.

Don't know if this is at all helpful.

hi james

i swapped my v8 r8 for the a6 allroad that i currently have, great car but does not look special and its only a 204ps version, its much more suited as a daily driver than the r8  but a bit "normal" so i thought i'd look at the sq5 as i wanted a rs4-5 but have now got used to the 40+ mpg and the cheap road tax
i ordered the sq5 about a month ago after seeing the pics thinking it looked better than the std q5,but after driving and seeing one last week i'm not taken by the looks at all but a good allround driver and handles exeptionally well for such a high car,the bi-tdi is a peach
the spec i ordered was about everything you can get exept the sun roof  but i'm not sure its worth another £18000 on top of the allroad, keep looking at v10 r8s but there just not practical for me as a daily driver, loved the v8 r8 but had a feeling it would not be very good in the snow so had to change it for the best deal at the time hence the a6

thanks for the reply 8'

Hi 8'
Practicality has hit me too - I really don't want to get rid of my R8 V10 - I love it ...but most of my journeys are with wife and kids these days.

Maybe you should try the same model Q5 as I have, it's not slow and with a remap you'll get improved performance and fuel consumption.
Don't know what the price differential is between 3.0 TDI and SQ5 the former I think will be quicker than your All Road.

I am now in my second week of ownership of an RS5 cabrio. First impressions driving after the R8 were as anticipated and it took me a while to get used to the difference.
I have to say that I now feel that it was a perfect choice and answer to my brief....I have had so much fun with the roof down even though the weather has been a little Icelandic.
It will never give me the hardcore thrills of the R8 but my car brief has changed and I don't regret my decision.... Oh and it ain't no slouch.
