New clutch pack fitted

Post by northernpar » Sun Apr 28, 2013 1:34 pm

Been meaning to post for a while but basically a few strange things started happening with the S-Tronic box. In flappy paddle mode all seemed fine but when in auto the gear changes were sluggish plus on a couple of occasions the box didn't change up from 1st. This was accompanied by a louder than normal whine from the box that was beginning to get annoying/intrusive when sitting at idle. So, took the car to Aberdeen Audi who to be fair did a decent job. Some reading were taken and sent off to the factory (Germany) for analysis with the result that a week later the diagnosis was to fit a new clutch pack. So in the car went and some 10 days later (7 more than first estimated which would be my only gripe) I got the car back along with a complete 4-wheel alignment all under warranty and it feels like a different car to drive. So far auto problems have gone, flappy paddle changes feel more responsive and the handling has improved significantly at the front end (presumably due to the alignment however I did ask them to look at the suspension but no record of any changes).

What the master tech did say is that these gearboxes are adaptive (learning) so best to drive the car as much as possible as it was designed to be driven (which is easier said than done in winter in Aberdeenshire never mind driving fast while pot hole dodging).

So in summary a well done to Aberdeen Audi as they could have tried to fob me off with TADTS but persevered to find and cure the problem. Just need to get the wheels done (kerbed 3 out of 4) and she'll be back to her best.

Forgot to say, no real explanation for what the problem was but as this was an ex-demo car (1700 on the clock and 3-months old when I bought it) I can only presume that it had more than it's fair share of launch starts before I became owner which may have contributed to the problem.
