New RS5 Coupe details
I suspect the power figures are correct and the RS5 will be the most economical RS ever, add in DRC and the electronic hand brake I would not touch it with somebody else's barge pole. Apologies for being negative on this one but I think they just don't understand what performance drivers want anymore, more worried about meeting EU legislation than the customer...

I agree - shouldn't produce a TT-RS either - takes the shine away from the 4 & 6 IMHO.SJ-RS4 wrote:IMHO there should not be an RS5....should be kept to the 4 and 6 only!
I wouldn't I think either - DRC is enough to put me off any car! I've considered a 6 but don't want the DRC worry...tweek wrote:I suspect the power figures are correct and the RS5 will be the most economical RS ever, add in DRC and the electronic hand brake I would not touch it with somebody else's barge pole. Agree with this too; 1 turbo one would expect to see an ~50bhp increase in power, but 2...PetrolDave wrote:The torque figure quoted is total rubbish for a twin turbo 4.2 V8 - that for me is what makes the whole article questionable.

With the coming new rules about fleet average emissions, if they don't care about EU legislation, they may simply not need to worry about customers' expectations...tweek wrote:I suspect the power figures are correct and the RS5 will be the most economical RS ever, add in DRC and the electronic hand brake I would not touch it with somebody else's barge pole. I think its probably more to do with Audi owning Lamborghini....if they start producing 2 door cars with nigh on 500hp for the price you pay for a RS4, who will buy a Lamborghini except the die-hard Italian fans....
Of course, IMHO a RS3 and RS5 are totally different genres of car to the flame spitting Lamborghinis but....
In the same way the RS2 was only ever produced as a Avant - because that was the deal with Porsche - I wonder if they're running into problems with product differentiation? I am sure this is the reason the R8 has only been produced with the NA V8 at the moment.
Stick a TT V8 in there or a V10, and there is precious little difference between that and a Gallardo...
I'd just like a 2 door RS series car....either the RS3 or RS5 would do me although I call the A5 series car a Grand Tourer not a sports saloon/estate.

Off the back of this article I emailed my dealer and said "Where do I sign?" albeit with a couple of other queries...
He wrote back saying it looked cool but included an Audi Press release stating:

Bloody journalists...On the front cover of this month's issue of Car magazine (out this week) there is a mocked up image of an 'RS 5'. The 'RS 5' model does not exist - the pictures have been digitally created by Car magazine using the S5 as a basis.
Inside, the magazine has devoted eight pages for a head-to-head battle between Audi and BMW, pitching the 'RS 5' against the "proposed, lightweight M3 CSL".
Any customers mentioning this article should be advised that the Audi shown in Car magazine is purely a rendering based on media speculation.
The RS 4 and RS 6 are a fixed part of quattro GmbH’s strategy. We are examining on a case-by-case basis whether to extend the series to include other model lines.
