Exhaust query

Post by ARSEY4 » Tue Oct 09, 2012 3:49 pm

When you spec the standard exhaust it is still valved in the sense that
when you put drive select into dynamic it gets louder. If you spec a sports
exhaust is there a seperate button or is it still activated via drive select?
Also if you were to fit a miltek I assume that it would be activated via drive
select as the standard exhaust would be.
One other general question is that under individual you only seem to be able
to programme the louder exhaust under engine and gearbox. I have borrowed an
RS5 with the standard exhaust and have come to the conclusion that my favourite
around town setting would be exhaust louder, gearbox and steering in comfort
but you can only have the exhaust louder if you choose engine and gearbox in
dynamic. On the open road and having fun its not a problem but I am not too keen
on the auto part of dynamic where it seems to hang on to the gears for too long
and is a bit jerky.

If you like the exhaust note but don't like the early down shifts then set up as this perhaps: Using drive select choose your engine and gearbox to dynamic and steering and suspension to auto (for example) and then use the gear lever in the left hand gate. This way you can change up when you want to and it will only down shift automaticaly when the engine needs to. You don't get the throttle blip if you let the car change down..but if you use the paddles then you can still get that blip if you wish. I drive like this all the time as I prefer to use the paddles but if you "forget" to change down the car still does it for you...

Last weekend I tapped into the vacuum operated valve system myself and wired in my own remote controlled valve button fob, (like a garage door opener fob in size), when in any Drive select mode the valve can be chosen to be open or closed, even in 'Comfort', so it doesn't hang on to gears or changed down unnecessarily, I would recommend going down this route, (but on your own car of course) ;)
