The car I drove also had a sports exhaust and as you say its quite quiet, is it switchable as the salesman seemed to think not but he did tell me the car I was driving had ceramics which it did not. Can you alter anything in the settings? Can you alter the gearbox change speed in the settings when you pick your own set up?
Many thanks.
Yep I very happy with it so far. I didn't go for dynamic steering for exactly that reason, people say it's too detached. The steering does adjust through the Drive Select as well as the exhaust, engine/gearbox and suspension (I think. Forgive me if I got that wrong, there are so many settings..).

You can have each in either comfort, auto or dynamic in the individual mode. The exhaust definitely alters in dynamic. In dynamic the steering has more resistance. I think at the minute my individual setup is steering-comfort, exhaust-dynamic, engine-dynamic, suspension comfort.

That sounds better. I really think you need a couple of hours in this car alone to discover all the settings because as you have proved you need different aspects from different modes, like I would like sharp steering normal suspension and loud exhaust and quick changes.
Keep us posted when you discover things as I am really interested to hear.

GTBoy wrote:I would agree that it looks much better in the flesh. Squat and muscular. I think it must have been tricky to balance the styling without going too over the top. The wheels are the first thing you notice, both the diameter and the width.

The sports exhaust doesn't seem too loud actually, but then I have only heard it when inside. Throaty without being rediculous. When it's in comfort mode it's quite quiet, then in dynamic it's very deep. The blips on the downshift are a lot of fun in dynamic mode.

The DRC works really well. In comfort it cruises like an S6 even with the 20" alloys. In dynamic it is very rigid and too stiff for day to day driving, but good for when the mood takes you. Never had such a configurable car that has such split personalities, changeable at the touch of a button, so enjoying that a lot.

In terms of pace, it feels like it always has loads of reserves of power whatever speed you are doing and the stronic gearbox makes it really useable and instant. I had a manual R8 V8 for a while and it definately feels as quick as that. Living in London I got really sick of manuals so I do feel as though I've got the best of both worlds with a decent boot.

What else...the spoiler is a nice touch. Interior is top notch - little touches are great. Advanced key is excellent. Sunroof is a must have I think, so big that the car floods with light. Pity it doesn't open fully but it's better than having a small one that did I reckon. MMI 3G is a big step forward. Can't think of too many/any negatives really...

I had a look at a white one in Norwich yesterday. The wheels were awesome so big and deep. The carbon weave also looked great. it was a lot tighter than my RS4. Luxury personified in the cockpit!

Got it wrong, the four settings are in Drive select are:

Engine/gearbox (& consequently exhaust)
Steering
Suspension
Sports differential

I need to read the manual properly..

Looking good fella, at last some real "on the drive" pics of a RS5, the engine looks good.

I thought the sports exhaust was supposed to be finished in matt black - but it doesn't look like it on yours. Is this right? I have the sports exhaust ordered and would prefer it not to be matt black to be honest.

Thanks.

Sports exhaust is black (not really matt). Ordinary exhaust is chrome.

Thanks GTBoy. I guess I couldn't really tell it was black at all from the rear photo you posted - probably the angle.

Cheers.

So far I've done 3,000 miles including one trip from London to Stranraer & I struggle to fault it. I have read most of the magazine articles with interest and some I agree with and some less so. It isn't as fast as a GTR (obviously) and I think it does feel more substantial (read heavier) than an M3, but I don't mind that. I don't want an Elise.

Car magazine said that it doesn't ride well on UK roads. I haven't found that (esp as it has 20" wheels). The same person that apparently wrote that, Jethro Bovington, said in their video review that it's ride was like an S-class so he seems a bit confused. Don't think it can be both.

I know it's not very important but people do really like how it looks and believe it or not I've had photos taken of it in traffic. I guess that's maybe cos there aren't too many around.

MPG so far is about 21 and on long trips it's about 23 which I think is pretty good.

Not sure I'm qualified to add too much else that hasn't been written but I think the best thing I can say is that I'm extremely happy with it so far.

Picked up MINE yesterday

Post by binder » Wed Nov 10, 2010 3:45 pm

Collected mine yesterday. Had to go back to work so only drove in the dark in heavy traffic. I will post pics and update after the weekend when I have a chance to explore it properly (need a trip to Stranraer!!). So far delighted.
