Yes, that's a fair point about the 4.2. Do the RS6 bumpers etc still fit it (i.e. is it also a flared wheel arch model?)
You would definitely want the Recaro's!
I actually bought an S6 via eBay and it turned out to have the common gearbox fault, but spotted before I paid so nothing lost (thankfully!!!) Did a lot of investigation into the costs of having the gearbox refurbished - best case scenario is around £1,200 + VAT.
Anyway, long story short I had a change of heart after that experience and went for an Audi S4 (B6, 2003) which I picked up with two owners from new, with full Audi service history, at a great price. 344bhp as standard and absolutely love it!!!

Yes, the A6 4.2 models also have flared arches and the RS6 bumpers go straight on - no dramas.
I've had mine almost 5 yrs now, and as much as I love it, am getting itchy feet!
