A new S6 is on the horizon :)

Post by Golffather » Wed Oct 29, 2008 6:07 pm

Been without mine for a few months now and miss it like crazy...
ok, so having not owned an RS6 I'm not saying its the best thing on the planet, but for the money what else can you get with that spec, performance, space and rock solid build quality???

Like no other car I've owned (around 15 in 12 years) have I been so sad to see a car leave my drive....the problem was I'd never seen or heard my car drive off with me stood outside!

The RS6 exhaust made all the difference. It breathed better, sounded awesome without being loud and boy-racerish and looked superb.

If you haven't already done so get an RS6 exhaust fitted and you'll never look back. It'll also free up around 10-12 extra ponies........much appreciated on these NA beauties.

Anyway, I'm back on the hunt for a black saloon or Avant for a bargain price ;) I'm not willing to pay the £8-£10k folk are asking for, especially as an RS6 can be had for a few £k more.

Not wishing to dilute S6 values here but the market has hit rock bottom so realism has to kick in soon.

Can't wait to get back on the scene and inject some greater enthusiasm into this forum.

Exhaust and RNS-e already lined up ;)

Good luck with the search.

I was considering one of these but the prices being asked don't seem to bear any relation to the guides. For example I've looked at several guides for a 2001 S6 and at an average milage of 60-70000 miles they come up as 5-6.5k. All the ones I've seen advertised at the moment have 20-40k more than this and this would reduce the price by about £400 per 10k ! (All for best, private condition). So valueing a 100k model (2001) at about 3.5 to 5k. (ouch !).

Are expectations way off beam, are the guides talking rubbish (though they seem to tally with dealer trade-in offers), have people not accounted for the effect of high petrol and forthcoming tax rises /

Hmmmm

When I bought my S6 3 years ago the price guides were about 3/4k out as well. I couldnt find any for sale any where near what the guides were quoting unless they had done 150k miles.

Golffather. just out of interest, you sold your S6 not long ago and were asking £10k, you now you expect to buy one for 3-4k less? surely you should of sold yours for 5-6k then? Could see them dropping 4k since june...

Since my own black S6 saloon is still for sale some of the above remarks very much relate to me.

I would simply say that you only have to look at dealer prices to get a good ballpark figure and just knock an appropriate amount off for haggling as always and then adjust accordingly for a private sale. I have reduced mine significantly to take into account the effect of the current economic crisis on all car prices, but it is now a bargain in my opinion at £7600 - not the 3.5-5k suggested above (which is ridiculous). Take a look at what's on offer out there and you'll see what I mean.

With regard to dealer prices, there is always the argument about the so-called security of buying from a dealer, but in my opinion and experience, most private sellers are fair and genuine and know their cars far better than a dealer who is really just interested in shifting stock. Whilst it is "nice" to have a dealer warranty (and of course an extended warranty costs more on top of the already inflated dealer price), they don't know all the ins and outs of every car, and don't always appreciate how special cars like the S6 are.

So in my humble opinion, buy privately after you've assessed the seller, get a professional engineers report, and you will still be quids in. Also why pay extra for a dealer's extended warranty, most of them aren't worth the paper they're written on - buy one independently and you'll still be at least hundreds of pounds better off, maybe more.

Golffather, you advertised and presumably sold your own S6 privately for somewhere near £10k only a short while ago, yet you are now wanting to buy one at well below £8k! Even taking into account the effects of the economy, the expression cake and eat it comes to mind.

Well said.. I just bought an S6 last week from DJcromie off this forum, I have known Mark for years and gave him "nearly" what he was asking for the car.. Here is the car I just bought... Not 3-4k or anywhere close..
