S6 - RS6 Alloys and Tyres

Post by editor » Fri Dec 28, 2007 1:44 pm

HELP PLEASE. The Proxies on my S6 are nearly on the wear bars so I must change them now. They are 255.40.ZR.17 and I want to go up to the 18" RS wheels.

Should I go for 255.35.18 which will give the same rolling radius and if so, is there an offset problem please? The alloys that I have seen are at Wheelbase with a 35-45 ofset.

Can anybody advise me on the right route to take please?

Thanks a lot. CLIVE.

Hi the 8.5x18 et30 wheels from the later s6 and were optional on the rs6 fit fine on the s6. I have a set on mine running 255/35 18 tyres if you go bigger in profile to 255/40 as fitted to the rs6 the spare wont fit in the spare wheel well.

Ah right. Spare no prob a I have LPG'd the car so have no spare. So I could run 255 35 18 on the 8.5x18 alloys then. Trouble is getting the alloys?

Hi, Noticed your comment about having an LPG conversion and would be very interested on any comments you have about it. e.g. Who did it? How much? Was it worthwhile? Any drawbacks? :?:

I have some 19" OEM RS6 alloys with almost new 255/35 Pirelli P Zeroes fitted on my S6 saloon. I have only owned the car for about two months and the ride/ handling seem fine to me but I was wondering what pressures I should really be running them on? I currently have them set at 36/39.

I have already looked at the RS6 forum to see if that would help, but noticed that there is quite a disparity of opinion on the subject for RS6's with pressures ranging significantly from 44/44 to 40/38. Since the cars do of course have significant weight/ peformance differences, it would be more relevant to hear from an S6 owner with a similar set-up. Can anyone help please? :?:

....what size tyres though? If they're 17 or 18 inch then the pressures don't have to be so high anyway.

Okay, then in my humble opinion that may be a little low although I'm not sure how much difference the tyre brand makes

I've recently upped the pressure on my fronts to make it an even 39/39 which does seem to have improved it slightly, although I'm also going to try lowering the rear pressure now to 39/37 to see if that's significantly better. This in view of what I've read about elsewhere - the logic being the heavier front weight bias, so I can see the logic in why people do that.

Be interested to hear if you try any different settings on yours too. Plus anybody elses input would be very welcome of course.

Just a follow-up to the last post - the 39/39 definitely seems to provide better grip and handling.
