Right - the wiper linkage has seized on my S6. It was a bugger to get out - had to un-bolt it from the motor - 2 hours of fiddling around.

The first question is, where can I get a replacement other than the stealer
The second question is, has anybody else done this job themselves?

Have you tried Vagparts.com?
Otherwise it is one of the specialist breakers for a second hand one. I have used motorsinmotion before. He puts a number of ads up on ebay.
