Soon in the hunt for S6 Avant

Folks
My mate currently has a ur-S4 Avant which he is about to sell. We've identified the S6 V8 Avant as his desired replacement.
As I'm not familiar with this beast (V8 mechanical wise) , I would be very gratefull for any info on things I should look out for when I try and source one.
Budget = £12 - £14.5k
