Whizzing Zuzzing noise

Help. Has anyone had or developed a whizzing zuzzing noise as the revs go up? Firstly I thought that it was a gearbox problem but it happens when stationary and as you increase the revs so the pitch of the noise rises. All belts seem OK. It is the sort of noise that may sound like a leaf being held against a bike tyre and as you go faster the pitch increases.

Thanks. CLIVE

Well - no one knew!

It was the viscous coupled fan! BUT beware, she has done 70K miles and Audi recommend a cambelt change at 74K. Having to have the front of the car off to do the viscous fan, I decided to have the cambelt changed - damn good job too. The main tensioning wheel was about to collapse. So, have yours changed before Audi recommend.

Clive,
Just picked up X reg S6 standard in Silver with 90k. Had an S2, but this is so smooth & for the money...a steal & I can't stop smiling.
Sounds like I've some niggles. There's a faint whizz similar to a turbo spinning but not always there, usually under acceleration from low revs & then petters out? Also after 500 miles a bang/knock/clunk on the nearside front while cornering hard or when travelling over bumps..probably a bush/control arm? And last, a Catman replacement for under the driver seat which is giving a rasp?
Anybody any ideas?
Everything else true. The tranny is great & kick down is sweet. Don't use the tip much. Thinkin of buying shares in BP! (ultimate consumption).
Lookin forward to summer mods: tints; full miltek; & 19"s, in that order.
