What to look out for when buying an S6

Post by Beau » Mon Sep 19, 2005 12:36 pm

Newbie alert.

Considering an S6 Avant and planning to look at a 2000 (W plate). 46k miles, 2 owners, green with full black leather. Up at £16990.

Any comments on whether the price is fair? What should I look out for in particular?

Also on my web trawls I have seen mention of an autocar buyers guide published in May this year. Does anyone have a scan of this they can post/email/fax me as I can't find it online anywhere or even a mention of it on the autocar website.

TIA
Beau

No - it was marked as reserved before I'd even had a chance to look at it plus the mileage appeared to have been a bit of a typo - should have been 56k. Still seems to have been good value though.

I've also been very tempted by an Alpina b10 V8 touring (based on a 540). Higher miles still and higher price but having driven a B10 V8 saloon last weekend I am smitten. It's got (and please don't anyone get offended  ) much more feel to the whole vehicle than the S6 saloon that I tested - though that could have been a bad example. But it's more money (they are as rare as rocking horse poo - only 14 RHD ever made) than an S6 Avant of equivalent age/miles.

So still considering!
