Which engine oil to choose

Post by editor » Wed Apr 08, 2009 1:38 pm

Now that my S6 is 6 years old, I have a local garage service the car and not the rip-off Audi dealer.

So what oil should I use in place of the £5000/l stuff Audi sell? Also, can I, should I change the G/Box ATF?

Thanks

Hi,

I think the oil is 10w40. I bought some fully synthetic stuff from GSF car parts when getting mine serviced. You can buy 2 gallons then have some left for top ups. I changed to fixed servicing as I don't do big miles and thought it would be better to change it once a year rather than 2 years+ between variable services. The variable service oil is dearer too.

Changing the gearbox oil is very tricky. I wouldn't let my local garage do it. I would get it done at a gearbox specialist.
