Hi all, old audi owner here, trying to help out a friend. The car is a 2002 A6 avant (3.0 ltr petrol) both of the keys have stopped working with regards to the remote locking. The owners manual has a loose explanation of what to do ie "press a button on the remote control key, insert the key in the door lock and either unlock or lock the vehicle once, should not take more than a minute"
Does this mean you have to leave the key in the door lock for a minute after locking/unlocking? DO the lights flash or is there any indication you have been succesful? Could anyone be a little more prescriptive about how to go about this? I am sure its been covered before but I didn't have much luck on the search feature.
All help gratefully received!!
Thanks
Miles
Help with keys please
RE: Help with keys please
Try this, it's from the Bentley:
Programming new remote controls
Two keys and all the remote controls that are to be programmed
will be needed. The maximum number of remote controls that can be
programmed, including old and new, is four.
- Insert first key into ignition switch, and turn it to
"ignition on."
- Insert second key into outer door handle, and turn it to
unlocked position for 10 seconds.
System alarm will emit three beeps.
- Take first remote control to be programmed and press button
-1-, two beeps will be emitted. For second remote control, press
button -1-, two beeps will be emitted. Use same procedure to program
third or fourth remote control. All remote controls must be programmed
within one minute, otherwise new programming will cancel and old
remote control programming will be valid.
- Turn key in outer door handle to unlocked position for 10
seconds, one beep will be emitted.
- Switch ignition off.

That way didn't work with my A6 I found somewhere this way
Ignition on
with the key you want to program lock the door with the key,
Take it out, wait 10 secs and press unlock button (Car should unlock)
For next key same again but press unlock twice and so on
don't forget to take key out of the ignition to test it because after the initial unlock it wont do anymore until its out of program mode
I didn't get any cherps or flashes apart from the one flash when it unlocks
this is also a way of testing if a remote is working (assuming you haven't got the led on your remote as the newer stuff has)
Having wrote all that I've found the original post:

Another EDIT I didn't use my valet key, for some reason my chip in the key must be no good as the car wouldn't run when I used that one
