A6 break in and consequent dash problems.

Post by madcjd » Fri Nov 30, 2007 8:47 am

:( Someone managed to get into my 1999 A6 without setting off the alarm or damaging the car in any way. This has now led to some instrument cluster problems.
They also managed to get into my neighbour’s Passat without any evidence of break in. (We both now have crime report numbers relating to these break ins).
I assume these people have some way of over-riding the alarm system but it looks like it may have damaged my instrument cluster in some way. When I drove the car, after the break in, all the instruments were dead and all the little red lights throughout the car were dead!
Next day, car was dead, so a new battery cured this and then all the instruments came back along with the all the little red lights throughout the car.
Don’t know if a disconnection/reconnection of battery has reset something?

Anyway, just wondered if anyone has experienced anything similar ?

Cheers.

[quote="TiTony"]Chris,

I now have my car back, from the Audi garage, and new dash panel fitted - £560.

I have told other people of the car entry and nobody has heard of this. At least by someone highlighting this though, it might make someone, who may have thought they left their car open, actually did not.

I can't say for sure if it is down to this person who entered my car but the Audi dealer did say they have never changed a dash before because of immobiliser failure.
The only good thing is that I now have a fully functional dash with no lines through the computer or iffy backlights.

I do need another dash again though as when they took my mileage, it was then converted into KMs so has therefore multiplied my mileage by 1.6. I thought they could just program the correct mileage onto to the dash, but, they said it needs to be ordered from Germany again.
