Future Values....

Post by RS4SRS » Sun Sep 02, 2012 3:46 pm

So after 2 years RS4 ownership, which I lost my flipping arm (and legs...) on... £15k over 2 years - OUCH :bash:

I'd like to go into the next deal with a more honest view of what my next car is likely to lose over the same period....

Thinking about either a X6 35d with 35k miles - 2008 valued at £28.5k - from BMW main dealer
or
Seen a nice S4 3.0 V6 Avant s-Tronic in white - 59 plate, 34k miles - from Good Independant

Both are good specced cars...

Anyone know what the residuals on these 2 would be over the next 12 months and 24 months?

Thanks

Steve

Hmm I reckon 15k-16k on the S4 in 12 months trade, and another 10-15% a year on

Should have said - S4 purchase price is £25.5k...

Ouch £10K in 12 months - I will not be going there........

I'd be wary of expecting much difference from an E71 in terms of depreciation.

To be honest I'd not really think them comparable beyond door count. Power delivery, handling etc all worlds apart. The s4 is no lightweight and although the x6 does a great job of carrying and hiding its bulk, it's no sports saloon. The twin turbo oil burner, although not the most refined is a fabulous engine but after two vehicles using it I personally missed the silky smooth feel of a petrol.

It's pretty much guesswork really. They are still holding good money though at the moment looking at the AUC

Thanks, yes I agree they are not comparable - I like them both for different reasons.....

In the real world driving.... what sort of mpg are you getting from the Beemer and what did you previously used to get from the Audi. It's not the be all and end all of it for me but very interesting to see what someone who has actually owned both has to say...

So the first was an E61, 2007 535d. In std trim it gave me anything between 25 to 35 mpg. After emaps tweaked it, that went up to an average of 30mpg for overall use unless i was really hooning in it. That was replaced by a 2008 X5. So I cannot give direct experience of X6 beyond the two test drives I did to compare whether that was to be the 3rd BMW oil burner. So the x5 used to return anything between 20 to 30 mpg, after remap it didn't really make much difference, perhaps slightly worse but I had an aggressive map on it.

So after X5 it was to be an S4, X6 or an M5. The M was just ridiculous for fuel and running costs. My test drive averaged 11 mpg and that wasn't overly spirited. X6 just felt like a slightly sprightlier X5 but lost all the additional benefits the X5 had, such as 7 seats, all the toys you could imagine. The S4 for me just gave the right blend of cruiser as well as play thing when I wanted to.

To each their own of course, but I don't miss the sheer size of the X personally.

Put a deposit down on a 2010 S4 saloon today - collect next week :biggrin3:

Spec as I can see is as follows

Sepang Blue
S-Tronic
Tech pack (HDD Nav, Bluetooth)
ipod prep
Super Sport seats
Cruise
20k miles

Bought from local Audi dealers (perth) - pics to follow....

I'll wait and see how I live with it over the next wee while, and will consider mapping options thereafter....

Congratulations Steve - I am envious over the HDD nav ;)
Did you opt for any of the driver enhancing options (sports diff, adaptive suspension, steering). I only ask as coming from your RS, these might help the balance seem more favourable towards the S.

I test drove one without these toys and found they made a real difference once you started to hustle. I have an s-line loaner (dink in door being fixed) at the minute and have to say I really notice a difference in road holding with a desire to understeer being evident and a lot less confidence over directional changes and tracking a line. Not sure how close the S-line suspension is to the S4 ?

I think you're going to enjoy the car and don't beleive you'll have any regret. That diesel torque is a hoon, but when it takes 10 minutes each time to warm up to form, you notice the clatter and rumble.
