Exhaust options

Post by Nickyboy » Thu Aug 30, 2012 6:11 pm

I've been looking at exhausts recently even though I am satisfied with the sound of mine. I'm just getting the mod bug again I think.

I have looked first of all at miltek but I really dislike the tailpipe design. What I want is the same style oval chrome exhausts on the facelift S4 but a bit wider. Can anyone name any other companies producing exhausts which I can get in the UK that meet my requirement. It doesn't need to be a full system.

Further to this; I was just parked next to a V8 R8 and the noise on start up is sublime. This is the noise I want coupled with the look mentioned above.

Would a new exhaust actually come close to making this sound?

Yes yes yes I know that, comedians! Re-phrase - could I get an exhaust to closely replicate that sound?

Have a look on the APR website about what they call their RSC - Reflective Sound Cancellation - exhaust system. Reviews on US forums are good and it sounds nice. If it really is as drone-free inside as they suggest, then it might be the best of both worlds. Of course you'll never get that deep 4.2 litre V8 burble from the S4, but then an R8 can't produce anything like the Dino-esqe snort of a powerful V6 either! Word is that the Milltek RES system is too quiet, but the NON-RES is a waaay too loud.

I think the milltek non res gives the most "burble" at idle akin to a v8

Otherwise the awe exhaust has a great all round sound

Lots of clips on utube but none will give you the true feel of an exhaust as compared to hearing in person
